Pronunciation of Corps

As far as I know, those haven’t been used since the Cold War. The three Corps in the Army are the largest commands below the level of FORSCOM. Technically, First Army Group still exists as a training unit but it is much smaller than any of the Corps. I don’t think any of the other Army Groups are still around.

Actually, they’re still in use, just as the Army components of the various Unified Combatant Commands, and they wear duplicate designations. They’re just the level above corps in these situations. It’s kind of a result of the reorganization of the Army some time ago, but still post-Cold War into the current scheme.

For example, the Third Army is the Army component of CENTCOM, and is designated USARCENT as well. Ninth Army is the Army component of AFRICOM, and is also designate USARAF. Sixth Army is the Army component of USSOUTHCOM, and is also designated ARSOUTH.

And so on and so forth for the rest.
