What is the proper pronunciation of this name? Is “Tie-Co Brah-Hay” totally wrong? Or is this pronunciation acceptable in English-speaking countries in the same way that Los Angeles (“Loss Ann-Jell-Ess”) is acceptable in the US?
I’ve always heard his first name pronounced “tee-co”. And for reasons unknown to me, when he’s referred to by a single name, it’s usually his first rather than last.
I’ve heard Tycho pronounced “Tyoo-ko” from an astronomer on TV, but I have no idea whether this is correct. Any Danish speakers out there?

For what it’s worth the Wikipedia entry has a pronunciation guide for his name.
You’re shouldn’t be looking for Danish speakers. Tycho is the latinized version of his name. You wouldn’t be able to pronounce the Danish, but wikipedia renders it as: “The original Danish name “Tyge Ottesen Brahe” is pronounced in Modern Standard Danish as [ˈtˢyːə ˈʌd̥əsn̩ ˈb̥ʁɑː].”
