As in the Ticonderoga-class of cruisers?

I saw one out in the Chesapeake near Annapolis while boating this weekend, I pointed it out to my boatmates, and was about to be all cool and stuff by using shorthand but realized I didn’t know how to pronounce the shorthand, so I just said “there’s a Ticonderoga out there.”

I’ve read “Tico” as a shorthand nickname for them before, but don’t know if that’s pronounced like Ticonderoga, i.e. Tycho, or differently, i.e. Teeko.

I was able to go on the Tico a couple months before it was decommisioned. Those on board pronounced it Tycho.

Funny that you should use the spelling “Tycho” to represent “TIE-koe” since Tycho (like the astronomer) is pronounced “TEE-koe”.
