That response WAS in the pit.
As the voice of reason in this One Flew Over the Derpers Nest, I defer to your superior intellect.
The most pernicious part of that particular poster’s behavior is that they present a point of view that is enormously common in their particular case if you accept that they are as old as they purport to be. I have had more than one friend of various ages that I have had to disabuse of the notion that they could cite a year, a style, or some other quality that cut off when “good music” stopped happening. It’s a bullshit premise on its face if you know a damn thing about music or art that’s worth talking about beyond “what I like is…”. When challenged, this particular nitwit doubles down on their bullshit premise until you’ve broken it down it’s logical blocks. I’ve bothered to do it once, that I can recognize. But that only lasts for a thread, at best. They’ll be back with another assault of wielding ignorance as a weapon* soon enough.
But, even if they’re are being honest, they’re one stupid dipshit. If you respond to them, be sure to give them the same respect they give you. They have shown that they don’t deserve the common grace of assuming that you might have misunderstood their tone. I may be me deluding myself, but I think they’re dumb enough to believe what they post. It’s not too terribly sad, other than they seem to believe they are special for believing it.
*I can’t find the source, but another Doper accused the nitwit of this, and it’s stuck in my head every time I’ve read one of their posts. Either way, they’re the adahaer of being right about music.
You aren’t by any chance a sock of Starving Artist?
Do we have a history of antagonism that I’m unaware of? Perhaps I just irritate you. In either case, I’m happy to concede your victory, especially since I didn’t know there was a contest in progress.
It’s a pit thread about trolling, so I was just being obnoxious on principle. An no argument that ends in being accused of being a sock of Starving Artist can be considered a victory. I yield.
All true. You feel like there is potential for a thoughtful discussion, but it turns out to be a 5-year-old kid saying “But why?” or “Nuh-unh!” endlessly.
Crazy-making, as evidenced by my little outburst.
I think of the approach as coming from a Nigerian Prince Troll - they get you going with a promise of a big return on your investment. So they start with “I don’t get that musician; I just don’t hear it - what is good about this person?” When you try to offer some thoughts, they come back with “Buy why?” or “Nuh-unh!” - but at that point, I have made an investment and would like to see if I can get it to pay off, even though, as someone pointed out upthread, they came back with non-answers 45 frikkin’ times.
At that point, I was hooked on the line, flopping along merrily. Sigh.
Ah, no worries then. We’ll call it a draw.
His latest work. "How to tell some one there are too fat to ride in your car. If this doesn’t convince the fence sitters in this thread, I don’t know what will.
Meh, I really don’t see what the fuss is about. Is having an LDR so hard to believe?
I posted the thread about declawing cats because I was legitamently intrested in what people thought about it. The third tread was because my friend was having that problem.
I don’t post a lot because I get very busy in real life. Any of you can approach me if you have a problem.
Oh, I get it. You’re Just Asking Questions, then.
ETA: not the Doper with that name. I don’t mean to call either of you a sock.
A smart troll wouldn’t misspell “legitimately interested.” A dumb one certainly would. But carry on, and we’ll carry on pointing and laughing at your weak trolling efforts.
I think it’s charming that you actually believe anyone anywhere buys the “My friend has a problem” thing, whether it’s by you or anyone else.
He asks how a murderer or rapist can be judged if they do it just once. If you think that’s a sincere question, I’d say that’s even worse.
Good trolling is always going to leave you wondering if the person was really trolling. Bad trolling sticks out like a sore thumb.
Yeah, because it’s not realistically possible for a friend to come to you with a problem; isn’t it?
Truth vs. non-truth.
And our troll starts yet another thread.
You’re late. Post #68.
phail my.
Wasn’t there another poster some while back who posted a lot of questions because his friend wants to know?
I didn’t lie about anything.
