Time sure gets away 
I recall several posters predicting (or at least worrying) that Iraq would devolve into civil war along ethnic and religious lines in the same manner as Yugoslavia after Tito died.
Here are some examples from March-April 2003.
And on January 17, 2001 (before 9/11) rjung made the following prediction:

I don’t consider that a prophecy since people had been predicting it to happen for decades.
