Of course not, because the Straight Dope doesn’t have a homework forum.
Enotes is a web site dedicated to homework questions, editor’s get paid.
I posted over there awhile in the legal section and history/poetry at times, but not under lawbuff.
I did not qualify as an editor, no degree, etc., but anyone can still answer questions.
Humor appears to be a slippery concept for some of us to grasp. Not me. I clearly detected czarcasm’s tongue firmly in his cheek.
No doubt. Just venture to a programming forum. People show up constantly and simply ask for code for their homework assignments. Cite. They also show up with copied and pasted intermediate-level code and then ask questions which show they have absolutely no understanding of what they’re doing. I have no doubt these people are exposed come test time.
… not just kids. I was teaching in an MBA program for several years. As part of their first paper, students had to describe their employer in their own words, and then use of our tools to analyze the company. I did a Google search on the company descriptions, and it was amazing how many people just did cut-and-paste from their company’s website.
My guess is that any reasonably good teacher does search on any interesting wording in a paper, so these people are probably exposed well before test time.
What that thread demonstrated to me is we could have a forum for "Queries for replies that consist of ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ "
Then the OP could take their pick.
Proposed: New Questions That Could Easily Be Answered By Googling Forum
Jinx could moderate.
You know what would be awesome? A Homework Forum where after the OP, no replies could be made, so eventually there’d be all these homework questions, with not a single answer for any of them.
I just think it’s funny the way JARojas4244 posted a serious request and got joke responses and then Czarcasm posted a joke thread about it and got serious responses.
I don’t know if I should take this seriously, or as a joke.
We’ll have to wait and see how people respond to it.
Did you read the link in the OP?
Yep. I was playing on Little Nemo’s comment. Guess I needed a :).
Did Czarcasm really get whooshed there? Or did he only pretend to not get the joke as part of the joke?
Much like the number of licks to get to the center of a tootsie pop, the world may never know.
Or it may. Wait for it.
Yeah, it’s almost like the server is hosted in Soviet Russia.
The thing is, I have asked for homework help here. Homework help is different from giving me the answers. I have bounced essay ideas or asked for clarification with some tiny bit of script.
So it’s not like you can’t get help, or direction. You shouldn’t get answers.
- serious response to a joke question
Is… Is that the best “Soviet Russia” joke ever?
Could be…
