Props to all the kids at my favorite Mcdonald's

I live in an inner city area which one could consider to be in transition. Me, I’m part of the second wave of yuppies who are moving into these older bungalows, near the city center, and rennovating. As a result there is quite the diversity in my neighborhood. From public housing all the way to million dollar homes. The neighborhood is being gentirfied, and a grear effort is underway to make it safer for all with increased attention from the police

Adjacent to this area, walking distance to my house there is a Mcdonald’s. This place is like my second home, you see, many a night we both come home late from work and are too lazy to cook and clean up. This Mcdonald’s is staffed, almost exclusivelly by kids from the housing projects. These kids come from a pretty rough complex, but in talking to them, they tell me of how they go to school, do their work, and then come to work whenever they can. They pass up the temptations for easy money which is all around, and choose to work, not easy work mind you, it’s pretty nasty back there. For this reason I have all the respect and admiration for them.

With this neighborhood diversity there are many cases of the wealthier, self important, jerks who throw a fit, and get angry because their fried junk is running 2 1/2 minutes too long. They throw tantrums, threaten, and generally embarrass themselves. Which brings me to my second point: (somehow) these kids are doing the best they can, they are generally very courteous and willing to do their jobs, they deserve to be treated with respect.

SO hats off to all of those, whose portion of their lives are dedicated to feeding me my Mc-heartburn, and a pox to all you a-holes who give them a hard time for no other reason that your own inflated sence of self worth.

Amen. I’m all for people holding down a job while they try to better their position, doesn’t matter what. My main beef is with people who think it’s enough to HAVE a job, but not DO it. I’ve been in places where people just don’t know what they’re doing and don’t care. THAT’s when I feel the urge to slam, not because of what the position is, as I’ve worked a quite a few non-glamour positions myself, heh.

Having worked at McDonalds, I have made a rule for myself.

Never, Ever, give a hard time to anyone other than the manager. (I’ve never done that either). Lousy paying, boring, hot, nasty-people-bitching-at-you job.

Plus, it’s a bad idea to piss off the person giving you food.

I worked at McD’s for a grand total of twenty seven days, and I was never closer to suicide in my life as I was when I worked there. Wonko is right: it’s a hot, miserable job where people scream at you, abuse you, and look down on you. “You fucking idiot! I didn’t want catsup!!” While I was there, I had people throw food at me, call me horrible names, and roar at me until I cried. You clean up messes made by children whose parents thought that it was just adorable how the kid smeared catsup all over the walls and tables, and people who seem to think that because they paid two bucks for a burger, they own the place and can make as much a mess as they please. You retch while you clean up things that are just unmentionable in the bathrooms. And you do it with a big shit-eating grin, or ELSE.

I make it a point to be as kind as I can to the workers at McD’s. They’re going straight to heaven when they die . . . they’ve already had their hell on earth.

Let’s not forget us Burger King employees! It’s the Home of the Whopper you know?

Truer words never spoken.

Can we extend this to all the people who do jobs that we consider under us? I deal with customers on a daily basis, and never complain about what’s going on unless I feel that I have been treated unfairly/badly.

If it weren’t for people doing jobs we didn’t want to do, we’d end up having to do them ourselves. Interesting, no?
