you mean other than common sense? You’re taking the word of a horses ass who went INTO a church and fucked with their religious rites.
Now imagine if this happened in a Mosque in Egypt.

Well I think the Life of Brian made it to the theaters. so there yah go.
Heavily edited, yes. Plus it still got banned in a bunch of places, including places in the US. For the record, I am not drawing an equivalence here. Even if Myers did get hundreds of death threats, that’s not the same as rioting and/or killing.
I am not just taking his word for it . Because he published the details of one mail, and I also have extensive historical data regarding how “militant” Christians react to such stunts - along with how militant sports fans react to the same, and how internet tough guys in general behave according to the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory.
So why exactly *should *I disbelieve him, especially when some of his claims have been substantiated ? Do tell. Do tell me No True Christian would send death threats, I *love *that part !
And that has a thing to do with what ? What are you saying ? “If they’re worse, we can act as bad as we want to” ? “We get to act in horrible ways as long as we don’t exceed specific thresholds that would put us in a bad light when compared to the competition” ?
Besides, imagine if this happened in a Church in Angola, where they pour acid down the throats of 9 year old kids the pastor says are witches or possessed. See ? I can play the “point at those other unrelated people hailing from thoroughly different contexts” game too ! What do I win ?
And ? Did people interrupting or disrupting its performances receive death threats from Pythons fans ?
why, because you should have lived in and known Catholics in the US and you should also know better than to accept the word of an attention seeking jackass. And no, I wouldn’t put it past anyone to send a death threat about anything.
you win perspective. This was a “movie” made in the US. I say “movie” in quotations because it was not something seen in theaters. It was surfed out of the internet in another country.
Would you happen to know what they hand out to eat there? I love ME food and it might be worth checking it out.
It was a total flop, but it did open in LA:
I stand corrected.
And yet you put it past US Catholics to send email death threats to an attention seeking jackass deliberately trolling them.
There are ~310 million Americans out there. 90% identify as Christians - why would you assume only Catholics would react to an atheist mocking Christianity ? The Enemy has a certain unifying power about him. But regardless, out of the graciousness of my heart, I’ll spot you the Protestants - all of them. Mormons too. That still leaves ~70 million genuflectin’ fools. And out of that **enormous **pool, a mere hundred anonymous angry responses on the Internet, you simply cannot believe ? Over something that made the rounds on every god botherer message board out there ?
And that’s just assuming we’re only talking *US *Christians - as far as I’m aware, nothing of the sort has been asserted. The 'net sees no borders, and neither does its hate mail.
So yeah, I’m highly doubtful of your a priori gut feelings and anecdotally supported assertions and assurances that the blogger must be lying.
Is it so impossibly difficult for you to comprehend even the possibility that there are absolute tossers on your self-identified side of the aisle ? Many of them ? After over 20 years of Internet existence, and 20 years of steady despair at just how ignorant, misinformed, mindlessly aggressive and cowardly people of every stripes, nationalities, religions, political leanings and furry fandoms really are ?
You forget that Christianity is mocked on a regular basis in the United States. Nobody cares. One hate mail does not a hundred make.
Once more with feeling: *nobody *said all of the hate mail was from the US. The internet is kind of everywhere, you see. Also the Catholic Church :). And people certainly do care when Christianity is blasphemed against, even in the US (*especially *in the US).
If you don’t see it, you don’t just have rose-tinted glasses, you wear a rose-tinted blindfold.
Again, with as much feeling, it doesn’t matter. You don’t see the reaction claimed for all the other examples of blasphemy against Christianity. It’s not there. So either you have the evidence for the hundreds of threats claimed or you don’t.
How much has regular life been disrupted in places like Egypt and Yemen? What if some kook released a movie like this, say, every other week. Would that eventually desensitise the crazies?
I’ll just post this here and quietly back away…
And yet it still did better than Sarah Palin’s movie.
Bazinga.
Wow.
Yeah, the Libyans seem to feel genuinely bad that some of their bad apples did this. And of all the political leaders in the region, I think that the stance taken by Prime Minister Mustafa Abushagur and the Libyan government seems the most rational and helpful.
I saw something about the German embassy in (IIRC) the Sudan being attacked as well. I have to say that I find this all pretty mystifying…I mean, I don’t think that this ridiculous YouTube ‘movie’ was even translated INTO German, so another WTF momemnt IMHO.
It’s spreading like a wildfire: U.S. Embassy in Tunis Engulfed in Black Smoke as Protests Rage Across Muslim World
Meanwhile the authorship and funding of what, IMO, The Daily Kos correctly calls an “agit-prop” hit piece, continues to unravel and grow even more sinister if you believe the following conjecture:
Nakoula just a fall guy. Keyman: Joseph Nassralla
If true, we’re getting into well-known name territory (Daniel Pipes) which can’t possibly be good.
