PS2 and blue disks.

“The Thing”

My son’s ps2 won’t play the game. It has a blue color. All other games play.

Any ideas?

Either the disc is damaged or the PS2 needs to be serviced.

Is the disc scratched or smudged? What happens when you try to play it? Do you get an error message?

Try running auto-diagnosis. You can get the instructions at www.us.playstation.com. If the autodiag fails it probably means that the disc is toast. If auto-diag fails on more than one disc you probably need to send in the console for repair.

It’s a brand new game. It goes to the memory card or disk screen, click disk, it comes back to the same screen. Up in the right corner it says PS2 disk.

Insert disk without the memory card in we get a no data error.

Blue discs are PS2 games on CD. PS2 games on DVD are silver/gold, and PS1 games on CD are black.

What color are the other games that work? Will the PS2 play audio CDs? How about audio CD-Rs?

There may be a problem with the laser power setting. Some types of discs are more reflective than others. If the laser power is too low, less reflective discs won’t work; if the power is too high, more reflective discs won’t work.

Here’s a FAQ about adjusting the PS2 laser, if you want to do it yourself (and void your warranty).

The PS2 is notorious for having trouble with blue disc games. I find the best remedy is to keep the system standing vertically or if you cannot have it that way, hold it vertically, turn it on, put in the disc and when it loads, put the system back horizontally. This always works for me and it should solve your problem.

for what it’s worth, I have the same problem with my ps2. I’ll try the vertical suggestion and let you know.

I haven’t been able to play sega tennis, so I’ll be psyched if it works
