My Playstation 2 is much more noisy than it used to be. It seems to be working fine, but it sounds like it’s ‘working’ harder to get things done, and I’m looking to avoid trouble in the future.
I’m thinking the problem might stem from the fact that I have three dogs in my apartment, and the fur gets everywhere. I think they also contribute to the tons of dust in my house. Oh, and I’m not exaclty good about cleaning, so I’m sure that doesn’t help…
Any ideas as to what to do? Am I supposed to be cleaning out my PS2?
Sounds like the dust and pet hair in your house is getting into the cooling fan of the PS2. My computer gets the same problem from time to time. Pick up a can of compressed air (they are often free after rebate at computer or office stores if you shop around) and hose down your PS2.
Ours did the same thing. It was near-silent for the first three months or so, then it started sounding like an eighties rap song (the thing where they scootch the record back and forth). It works fine tho. At the time I was working for the company that did the distribution for PS2’s sold from the Sony website. I heard thru the grapevine that they got a lot of returns because of this, but I never heard it linked to a specific problem.
My brother used to have a ps2 and the god damn noise kept me awake on so many nights even though there was a wall between us. It sounded like something inside the machine was jerking or like it was ‘thinking’ if you know what i mean. It was against the same wall as the end of my bed but he couldn’t hear a thing whenever he played it.
Thankfully its gone now but i can hear the new thing hes got just as loudly
Labels of any kind on your disks make them noisy. Affects the balance of the disk. Also, next up, dirty disks. I wash mine under the faucet & pat dry. Next up , dirty laser.
