PS3 recommendations

Ah, probably a bit too young then, 8 might be about right, but unless you have a very mature 6 year old…

Oddly, I wouldn’t recommend Shadow of the Colossus, there’s something primal about the end of level scenes that I think would scare the bejeezus out of a child that young, they’re mostly pretty child friendly, but the tall lanky shadows watching you are pretty damn creepy, I can only imagine how I would’ve felt about that as a child (granted, as a child I was pretty much on the opposite spectrum of fear resistance as I am now).

Sonic Generations is coming out in early November, that should be a really fun, family friendly game, though Single Player again.

For family fun I highly recommend you get the ‘Move’ motion controller.

I know this means making a further hardware purchase, but they are not really that expensive, and they are well worth the outlay.

Maybe getting two of them would be best, because with certain games it’s more fun to play against each other simultaneously.

One you have the Move controllers get the game called ‘Sports Champions’.

This game has 7 or 8 simulacra of real-life sports events on it. I’ve had this game for about a year and I still play it with my extended family whenever they come over. Everyone loves it, especially the Disc Golf event. The software programming is sophisticated enough to appropriately reward players who make an effort, so it is very satisfying. It can also bring you to a sweat, with events like Beach volleyball, which require a lot of body movement. Other events such as the archery one, rely more on accuracy and a steady hand, so there’s something for everyone.

Serious failure that a PS3 recommendation thread has gotten this far without Valkyria Chronicles.

Usually I can count on someone posting this before I do. :stuck_out_tongue:

They’re PS1 titles, and thus should be playable. And you can probably find them extremely cheap. They aren’t great, but they were good enough for a quick play as a kid.

A truly glowing recommendation!

This. Uncharted and Uncharted 2 both have shooting and violence. However, no more than the 80s ‘B’ action films as a child with my dad. My prudish grandparents enjoyed watching as I played (my Ps3 was at there house, because it’s quite visually stunning and has a lot of really well done cinematic cutaways, and weren’t put off by the killing.

Not sure if that’s “Family” enough, but it’s a real fun play.

I mostly play NHL 12 these days, but that really hinges on you liking hockey!

I love the Infamous games. Grand theft auto style open world and with lots of missions, only instead of guns and driving you have superpower action.

Got inFamous 2 today, had a brief go, liking it so far.

Finished inFamous 2 on my first play through (Normal difficulty, Good Karma) Going to try it again on hard/evil.
