PSA: Take pity on your peanut and tree nut allergic friends/family this holiday season

Food allergies are misunderstood in general, and the concept of cross-contamination is one that seems to be really hard for people (whose actual lives aren’t at stake) to understand.

Tis the season of baked goods and candy, and please believe us when we tell you that we can’t eat whatever it is you’re trying to force on us. We understand that you didn’t put nuts in it or that it only says “manufactured in a facility blah blah blah” or that we should “live a little”, but no means no. We really want a cookie, or a piece of fudge, trust us, but not enough to die for it.

Please consider stocking the following, which are all made in dedicated peanut/tree nut free factories, which means they are 100% safe:

Vermont Nut Free Chocolates

Lofthouse cookies (ONLY the ones with the “made in a tree nut and peanut free factory” on the top of the package, and only the real ones, not the store brand knock-off versions)

Fancypants Cookies

Gerbs (dried fruit, seeds, seed butters)

There are others, but I use these often. And, this should be obvious, but from my own experience I know it’s not: don’t store your ‘safe’ cookies in the same tin as a batch of peanut butter cookies. Make sure people don’t cut a piece of ‘safe’ fudge using the same knife as the walnut studded fudge. Etc, etc

The allergic people in your life will thank you!

P.S. this is not a commercial and I get no compensation from any of those companies.
