Wait, what is this pitting about, now? Are you pitting him for being disingenuous? For his views on spanking kids? Because he told you only to address him in the Pit from now on? I want to be sure my post is on topic before I weigh in.
I will say this, though. I agree with Isaac Asimov’s quote, “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.” I discipline 100 kids a day without laying a hand on them. I say this as someone who was hit as a kid, a bit to excess. No, I didn’t appreciate it, and I don’t think I learned anything positive from it except that I won’t hit my own kids, because I remember how it felt and I don’t want my kid to feel that way, ever. YMMV.
I have almost no idea what **Scumpup **is yammering about. I invited him to open up a Pit thread if he wanted to continue the discussion (which he claimed he was finished with, but which claim I didn’'t believe–correctly, as witnessed by this Pit Thread’s existence.) I felt the Pit was the appropriate place for any continued discussion of our disagreement, but apart from showing his ineptitude at opening up a Pit thread (you know, providing a link, making an argument against someone or something, basics like that), I’m still at a loss as to what his damage is.
If he would like me to heap abuse on him, there’s much material for me to use–he’s a bully with people smaller and weaker than he is, he’s a pinhead who can’t argue his way out of the world’s smallest paper bag (that his tiny head came in), and he’s incapable of writing a sentence that means what he wants it to mean. But I already implied as much in the original GD thread, where I was in danger of becoming overtly abusive.
To sum up my argument there that set him off, he wrote that prison guards are permitted to kill prisoners, and I told him he was very much mistaken in that. Guards are no more allowed to kill prisoners than cops are allowed to kill citizens or even suspects. It’s illegal. Patently so. If a justification for hitting helpless children is that guards are allowed to kill their prisoners, then the same standards of punishment will apply: the violent offenders will be punished for committing a violent crime. So what’s his point? I have no idea.
He wrote something false and stupid, and beyond pointing out those two qualities I had nothing further to say in GD on the subject. If he has something cogent to say here, I may respond, or I may let him argue against himself. He seems to be doing about as much damage to himself as I could do, at considerably less trouble to me. So, Scumpup, knock yourself out. Try to make a little sense, if that’s at all possible.

Well, that about wraps it up. PRR established that s/he doesn’t know how to conduct hirself in Great Debates…or has calling one’s opponents “sick fucks” become acceptable there now? PRR has now further established in this thread that s/he never has anything of value to say. Thanks for showing up PRR, quite honestly I never knew you existed before today. Now I know that you’re a disingenuous drama queen and I needn’t waste any time on your posts in the future.

PRR has accused me of being a bully and beating up on people smaller and weaker than myself, among other things. If s/he would kindly go back to the original thread and quote me here where I said that I spank my daughter or, perhaps, where I said that I was in favor of spanking children, then we’ll a have a lasting monument to PRR’s reading and debating skills.
The point I made there, and still maintain here, is that it is hilariously stupid to say we shouldn’t spank children because we don’t “spank” adults.
OK-- but first I need to know: have you ever hit your daughter? If so, how many times? Do you approve or disapprove of spankings?

She’s seven and I’ve never once spanked her. After having been beaten rather badly by nuns and been on the receiving end of some rather heavy-handed discipline by adult male relatives when I was a kid, I’d say I’m definitely against corporal punishment.
You, however, are still a disingenuous, overly dramatic, shrill, cunt who wasn’t willing or able to argue against my original point. Instead, you’ve distorted what I said and just plain made up shit about me. The fact that I am on the same side of the spanking debate as you shouldn’t make you think my opinion of you is anything but that your posts are without value. If this was a display of your best, you should stay out of debates entirely.
