Pull ups on gymnastic rings?

Is doing pull ups on gymnastic rings harmful in anyway?

Pros?

Cons?

Not so sure about “harmful”, but it is different than doing pull-ups on a bar:

  • you will likely (naturally) rotate your wrists inward (thumbs pointing to the rear), so that the rings are perpendicular with your body. So it would be more like doing pull-ups on “pegs”. This will engage different muscles, and other muscles differently.

  • depending on how fluid you are, you may start to swing. Unless you have someone to stop your swinging, the swing will either help or hinder you.

  • unlike a bar, the rings can move. So you may use more shoulder muscles to control/compensate.

I’m basically trying to find out if it’s a bad for you to do exercise.
