I really want to know what the name of the surf rock song is that they’re playing at Jack Rabbit Slim’s on the date in the background, it’s not on the soundtrack, and i don’t have the film with me.

IRRC that’s Link Wray’s Rumble. An instrumental who’s release was banned in the UK, mainly because the title refered to a street fight.
Link Wray is credited by many as a pioneer of distortion for the electric guitar, and is said to have got the sound by sticking knitting needles into the speaker cone of his amp.

thanks, that song is pretty bitchin.
Everything by Link Wray rocks. My fave: “Ain’t that lovin’ you baby”.
The Dave Clark 5 had an instrumental called “Rumble” in 1964 (that I believe was a cover of the Link Wray tune). I think it was on the “Glad All Over” album. Was that not released in England?
