Pungent hound dog aroma...

I have a golden retriever/hound mix. As background info, she’s middle aged, healthy, clean, and has a good balance of spending time indoors and outdoors. What i’m wondering about is this odor that she has. She’s had it as long as I can remember, and the best way I can describe it is as a pungent, metallic, and sharp aroma. It increases hugely when she’s wet like most dogs, but unlike other dogs…the smell will stick on your hands after you merely pet her or rub her belly. I know this isn’t just a “dog” smell. It’s different, and like I said…metallic almost. I can’t figure out what it is?

Oh by the way, sometimes our drinking glasses (just regular glass cups) will have the same odor, usually after there has been some condensation. Is there a hidden link?

Any help is appreciated.

Part of it’s probably that she’s part hound. The hound breeds tend to smell that way, as do a lot of water breeds. I think it’s related to the oils in their coats somehow, but I don’t remember the details.
