Yeah, maybe not so much of the dog(on) stuff. Everything has bee getting steadily less Sirius for the last 20 years. 5 years from now, it will be at its least Sirius, before it all starts to cycle back toward being more Sirius.

Oh, eschereal, now you’ve gone and done it; a little Sunday morning research, has turned up the following:
Sirius is the DOG STAR; actually a binary system (a white dwarf star circles the bigger one), it’s the brightest star in our sky, and even though it** is** getting closer to us, it will take 60,000 years (or roughly the time getting one package mailed at the Post Office) for it to get as close as it will before moving on–nevertheless (a 10-cent word), it will continue to be the brightest star in Earth’s sky for the next 210,000 years. Plenty of silly time left.
