I don’t know what prompted me to do this, but this morning, I poured half a bowl of chocolate crunch Cheerios and half a bowl of maple pecan delight cereal together and mixed it up.
OMG!
Mah mouth haz a happy! I’m gonna have to go get a second bowl. I know I shouldn’t, but that is soooo good!
I once had a scoop of French Vanilla ice cream on top of a slice of pepperoni pizza.
Sounds like crap, right? It was Grand! The contrasts of sweet/salty and hot/cold really made it special. It was doggone Good!
For years, I’ve been trying to counterfeit the recipe for Disneyland’s New Orleans Square Mint Juleps. (I believe they have changed the recipe over the years, as they do not taste as good, these days, as they used to.) I’ve come up with a number of interesting failures, but one of the better results is Canada Dry Ginger Ale, a bit of peppermint extract, a dash of lime juice, and sweeten a bit. It isn’t exactly right…but it’s darn good in its own right.
I used to love OJ with double chocolate donuts (chocolate cake with choc icing; darker the better). The double tang was exquisite.

Sriracha sauce
Peanut Butter and Jelly
That’s right Sriracha and PB&J on the same burger. It is wonderful!

Its definitely not an original idea but if you ever want a “freak you out it’s so gooooood” moment, then try this.
Buy a bunch of fresh regular glazed doughnuts.
(Krispy Kreme or Dunkin both are fine no debates on which is better please.)
Fire up the grill and cook up some good old fashion burgers.
(I prefer the premade Bubba burger types because they are more uniform but whatever works for you will be just fine.)
A couple of slices of real Kraft American individually wrapped cheese like food stuff.
(I suppose you could go for some other kind of more wholesome cheese but we’ve come this far might as well go all in.)
Slice those doughnuts in half bagel style and toast them on the non-glazed side quickly in the toaster oven buttering very lightly after they get good and toasted. (You could do them on the grill but I found they tended to stick and fall apart if not handled delicately.)
Now placing the doughnuts with the glazed sides in use them as the buns for your cheese burgers. Eat quickly before anything cools down too much and be amazed. I did not try it because I’m a cheese burger minimalist but others at this diabetic-heart-attack of a party added mustard, pickles, relish and/or catsup and reported highly positive results. I will leave this decision to the individual.
Yes I too was disgusted with the thought before taking the first bite but the experience was truly a culinarily awe inspiring moment. I would also recommend against doing this more than once a year or maybe even once every 10 years. It’s a truly deadly multi-punch food combo. But a delicious one. Those with heart conditions should avoid this at all costs.
These posts remind me of my dad. We used to laugh at him…his favorite treat was to eat cherry cake with a stack of sliced pepperoni on the side! But after we tried it we never laughed at him again. It is very good.
