Push-button router: how to connect to ipod?

I have a Netgear wireless router that I got to connect the downstairs computer to the internet. The downstairs computer has a little USB device that connects to the router wirelessly (er, is that a word?). When you set up the downstairs comp, the setup box asks you to go push the button on the router and come back and select OK on the box within 120 seconds. So I run upstairs, hit the router button, then run back down and select OK. The router does not have a password on it, since the downstairs comp uses the push button connect feature.

With me so far? Ok, well I want to connect several other wireless devices to my router, including my ipod touch and possibly my PSP. I see the netgear router listed under my WI-FI options on the itouch, but when I try to connect to it I’m asked for a password. It won’t let me connect without a password, even if I push the button on the router before I try to connect.

So how do I connect the ipod to my router?

You need to know the password. You can either find it, or set it by going to the router’s configuration page, at the IP address of the router (usually something like 192.168.0.1).

If you google the model of the router you should be able to find the user’s manual which will contain the IP address to get into it and the default password. Hopefully whoever set up your network didn’t change it.

If they did change it hold the reset button down for 30 seconds, unplug it while still holding it down, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in still holding it down for another 30 seconds. let go, your router has just been factory reset
