Pushing Daisies is cancelled

It’s a cold cruel world out there. There’s no accounting for taste. I really like Pushing Daisies", but you’ve got to look at the numbers. “Daisies” averaged 6.4 million viewers. Here’s the top 20 season rated shows. I don’t claim to understand Nielson ratings, but the number 20 show had 11,678,000 viewers. I haven’t been able to find a comprehensive Nielson ratings site, but I’m quite sure that there is a asymptotic drop off after that, and “Daisies” is way down on the curve.

It had some pretty good production values, so I’ll bet it wasn’t cheap to produce. Nevertheless, I’m bummed. It was a bright surreal funny show.

Crap.

Daisies and Eli Stone are two of my favorite network shows right now. Daisies is possibly the best show I have seen in years.

This sucks

Isn’t Pushing Daisies by the same team as Wonderfalls? Another quirky show of theirs cancelled. Unfortunate thing is that their material is not what premium cable networks would want; but if they did, the show runs would have been a lot longer.

Eh, I liked the show a bit, but I felt that the writers sort of shot their wad in the first season and left themselves with no place to go. The conflicts between the primary characters were resolved much too quickly and they were forced to constantly bring in new characters to advance the plot.

Shows like House and CSI do a better job of parceling out the interpersonal drama of the main characters around the weekly episodic mysteries. Pushing Daisies pretty much dumped it all in your lap at the outset and then hoped you stick around to see what the next weeks mystery was…people didn’t. Plus, the show was just too damn sickly sweet.

Yes, but the third show actually failed even on Showtime, “Dead Like Me”. I liked “Dead Like Me” quite a bit, I thought it better than “Wonderfalls”. It ran only a bit longer than “Pushing Daisies” and was on Showtime and not a network.

Back on the teat, man. Give “Life” a shot. Wednesdays at 9 on NBC.

Damn. I liked Daisies and Eli Stone.

I’ve asked this before, but I’ll go ahead and ask again. If a show has 7 million viewers/week, that is an already established audience and fan group, why couldn’t these shows just continue production, and sell on iTunes? Say, a dollar/download? That’s 7 million bucks/week, theoretically. Wouldn’t that pay the bills?

The *Dead Like Me *movie now has a release date of February 17. But it has been changed umpteen times. New Daisy, no Rube, no Kiffany.

If people will pay for it, maybe. I don’t know if your casual fan would pay money for a show, however, when he or she could just find another one to watch for free. Your rabid, die-hard fans, yeah, they’ll pay, but someone who’s a more casual watcher probably won’t. And I’d bet that the casual fans outnumber the die-hards by a lot.

Eli Stone’s very existence annoys me, but losing Pushing Daisies makes me sad. Don McLean has expressed my sorrow better than I could.

Ahh! No Rube?! :frowning:

Kill me, kill me now.

I really wanted to like Pushing Daisies and did for an episode or two, but it never really grabbed and held onto my interest.

I agree, “Dead” is/was the best of the three. “Daisies” slumped a bit in it’s 2nd season.

You know I think the writers have shot themelves in the foot with that strike. Soon, they are going to be in the same Position of Power as the Typesetter’s Union.

I gave Eli a real shot, but it was too treacly sweet and unrealistic (lawfirm- wise) for me to continue.

I see no love for “DSM” here, and I agree.

I liked what little I saw of Dirty Sexy Money.

I’m a DSM fan. At least, I enjoyed the 1st season. This season…meh; but I’m still watching it until it fades away into TV oblivion.

Axing PD, however, is a crime. Original and funny, which made it doomed from the start.

i agree with this; wasn’t it supposed to be back last week, and ended up getting pre-empted again? then it comes back this week with no fanfare at all?

i realize ABC is probably loathe to throw more money at a show they think is a lost cause, but wouldn’t even a smidge of promo $$ make sense? i can’t believe they’re so willing to toss aside a show that HAD an audience last year, with so much critical acclaim, and not make some attempt to bring people back into the fold.

Dammit dammit DAMMIT. I loved Pushing Daisies.

Although, they did mention a movie in the link in the OP…dare we hope?

I do hope they show the remaining episodes and there’s some wrap-up to the storyline.

Done, for what it’s worth.

:frowning:

I had a feeling when the ratings came out (3.0) from Wednesday’s episode ABC was just waiting to swing the axe.

I complained as well. About Pushing Daisies. Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money were crap.

I’m going to agree with Ominscient. I enjoyed the show but slowly but surely it was wearing itslef out on me. I don’t particularly like the Pie Man, the conversations can be aggravating as hell, the characters act pretty stupidly. I enjoyed it’s quitrkiness, but I honestly do not think it is the kind of series that I could stomach much past this season.

YMMV.
