Let’s just say “No One Murdered Because Of This Image” is NSFW.
I know the Onion exists to mock, but I don’t think publishing this cartoon was a good idea – not on the grounds of tastelessness, but because I wouldn’t assume a priori that no one will be killed over it. Violent fanaticism is not unknown to Judaism, Christianity, or Hinduism, and all three are capable of furnishing people who might respond to this kind of mockery with murder.
Hahahah, I nearly choked on my cola.
I wouldn’t want to live in a world without mockery.
fapfapfapfapfapfapfap
You always come through.
But, we note, even the Onion didn’t dare include the Prophet of Medina in that cartoon!
Where’s Clapton?
How come Hindu groups haven’t noticed this so far?
Um, that would have ruined the point of the cartoon.
'Cause they can see freakier shit in the carvings of their local temple?
Also, it looks as if Ganesha has both a penis and a vagina.
I’ve seen this linked a lot, and I keep thinking the subtitle should be “Tempting Fate”.
Wow!
Can you share some links of such temples, where Ganesha is anally fisting someone? Or blowing other Gods?
If you are referring to Khajuraho, people are shown having sex, not dieties.
I live in India and am not aware of this.
Sorry, I was a little too facetious–I really do apologize if I offended.
I suppose this is not the proper time for me to publish my series of Magdalene “pulling a train” with JC and all the Apostles, or of how Mother Mary was able to both remain physically virginal AND keep Joseph a happy husband…
But yes, sadly, it’s more like “no one murdered yet AFAWK”. And considering that Islam holds Moses and Jesus to be both great prophets as well, who knows…
You know, I think that message speaks volumes.
I was on vacation last week. I’m looking forward to having some interesting discussions tomorrow with my Muslim and Hindu car pool partners regarding recent world events.
But they won’t, despite the false equivalence made by folks like you and Der Trihs. That’s the point of the cartoon.
How do you know they won’t? I don’t *think *they will, but I wouldn’t rule it out altogether. There’s just no accounting for the behavior of the crazies. Or are you saying that Hinduism, Christianity, and Judaism don’t have their fair share of the crazies?
Sure, lets see it.
I’m saying that unlike much of Islam in the Middle East, they are aware of and relatively comfortable with the fact that plenty of other people think their beliefs are bullshit.
For example, many universities in the western world have courses which openly teach that the founders of Judaism and to a lesser extent Christianity didn’t exist at all. When’s the last time you heard of radical Jews or Christians rioting at your local Bible Studies department offices?
