Putting a cat to sleep

I guess *rub his belly * is not the answer you were hoping for?

We had to put two cats down this year. One because it was 22 years old and the other because it had the kidney’s of an 18 year old and would not survive. Both times our vet sent not only a card, but when we picked up the cat’s remains, they gave us: a gold sealed box with the ashes, a candle and other things to remember the pet. (we had both cats cremated privately so we could keep their ashes)

Most quality vet’s offer sympathy when it comes to an owner losing a “family” member. It’s just good business sense on their part to console a pet owner on their loss, so if the owner ever gets a new pet, they chose that same vet with no hard feelings of putting the animal down.

Sorry don’t mean to poop on a thread, just letting you know other vets do the same thing.

vets and their staff are very good at being there for you when a pet dies or is put to sleep. for a very long time they would be the only ones to give you sympathy on a pet’s passing.

i read your saga, baker and felt your pee pain. my winken the wonderful has had a time of it with inappropiate peeing. thankfully she is having a good spell now. with her kidney it is only a matter of time.

Well I just skimmed the comments. I’ll just share my own story.

Not with my cat, with my dog.

Twix pees when we aren’t home. My house reeks of piss, I have to mop every sing day. I have to wash the blankets that cover the couches every sing day. I have brand new furniture that is still at the store because I’m afraid to bring it home. I would be so damn mad if he peed on it.

But yet I keep him. I couldn’t live with myself to give him away, or anything else.

I’m hoping once he’s neutered things will get better though I don’t hold out much hope. He just can’t handle us being gone (even tho we have another dog that was here FIRST). I should mention he has seizures though and I think it’s another issue.

What comes down to what’s best for you. I won’t knock what you want to do. One thing I am going to suggest is this thing called Markout. Google it. I thought about and am still considering buying it for my dog. I don’t know how it will work on cats, but basically it’s this ace bandage type thing made to fit around the animal’s privates. It makes it where they pee on themself, and will eventually train them not to pee where they aren’t suupposed to. I’m probably going to buy it and use it when we are gone from the house.

Just that Twix is a biter when you mess w/his butt area so I may have to get a muzzle too.

Anyway, I hope things work out and in the end, you can live with yourself no matter what.

And never get a male cat again.

D’oh, and if I woulda read down far enough, I would have seen your other post.
