Puzzling Days in the MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 5c/41f with a predicted high of 10c/50f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “The weather is a fucking bag of suck”.

Today in 1924, the Sunday Express published the first British crossword puzzle. Do you have a favourite kind of puzzle? So far today, I’ve done Hang Five, Wordle, Connections, Strands and Waffle. That’s enough puzzling for one day, off to drink tea and do some work!

Every morning I do Waffle, Quordle and Quordle Sequence, Squaredle, and Connections. Then, after I return from Work each afternoon, I do alternatives to those same ones (archived and special variations they offer). I am very mediocre at them, but they keep my mind active. I also like full video games that have puzzle elements.

W00T! SECOND!
I get enough puzzles figuring out bad labels at work.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 49 degrees Ferret Height(9.444 Centipedes).

I tend to prefer Sudoku and variants over word puzzles for the most part.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 59 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 78, becomin’ cloudy this afternoon and with possible rain around four p.m. The plan of the day is high RDOS sloth. I was bzzy yestiddy, so must balance that out today in order to maintain my RDOS cred. The discussion of death chikin moved me to get a pack of boneless chikin thighs outta da freezer last night. Sup will be death chikin, peas ‘n carrots and rolls. Not exactly thrillin’, but it’ll feed.

I am not big on crossword puzzled. I do, however, enjoy logic problems. I suck mightily at 'em, but do 'em anyway.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

I do enjoy some puzzles, but not on a consistent basis - kind of like my appearances in the MMP… Not consistent at all! And this week is going to be just crazy. I’ve got changes for each student at least one day this week plus my two major doctor’s appointments today and tomorrow. Especially tomorrow when I go to talk about my lovely ankles that are no longer cooperating and instead want to stab me intermittently. According to my pal ChatGPT it’s most likely because I’ve lost so much weight (113 lbs). Gee, thanks, weight loss! No matter why it’s kind of scary on the stairs. This doctor is with a different group than the one that I saw about my knee last time. I’m going to see if they’ll consider replacing my knee at a BMI of 45 instead of having to get to 40.

In other news, does anyone else have strange names that just evolved in your head for random objects? Like string cheese = stringy dingy and dog food = poodly chow.

And if there’s anything here that I’ve repeated 20 times, my apologies. That’s another reason for today’s appointment. Ok, I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Penny Press Variety Puzzle books.
Anagram magic square, cryptograms, alphabet soup are my faves.

We begin with a mere 43 Ferrets, theoretically adding 20 more over the course of the day. According to my calendar there’s nothing happening all week. We’ll see how long that holds.

As to puzzles, I like Sudoku and its variants, logic puzzles, and word puzzles that aren’t designed for the marginally illiterate. When I’m playing games on my tablet, I get ads that claim “Must have IQ >130 to solve!!!” on puzzles that involve adding and subtracting. Really?? I don’t like crossword puzzles that seem to focus on pop culture/celebrities. I want a challenge that goes beyond “Mad Max actor _ _ _ Gibson”

I was talking to FCD yesterday about our dogs past and present. I chose only one - Bernie - but all of them seem to have chosen me. I guess it’s my animal magnetism! You all know I was against getting Otis, but he doesn’t seem to care. When I’m crocheting, he’ll lay his head on my lap giving me sad puppy-dog eyes. When I’m doing anything in the kitchen, he’s there, usually underfoot. When I’m here at my computer, he’ll come nudge my arm for skritches. I can’t be mean to him, but dang, dog, go bother you daddy!!

I do take him for walks, but that’s because FCD has a tough time walking any distance. (I’ve given up telling him to see a doctor - I might as well talk to my mouse pad.) But when it’s meal time, I’ll remind FCD to feed him. And I don’t clean his water dish - that’s daddy’s job. No matter - that dog lurves me. I can’t help being so lovable…

And so it begins. I’m sure I’ll find something to do today. Happy Moanday!

I used to love playing what Dell Puzzle Magazines called “diagramless” puzzles. Those were crosswords where you were given a blank grid and he usual across and down clues. You were not told the number of letters in the answer for the clue and you had to not only find the answer, but also find where the black squares are.

Morning all. Up at 6am today, have pilled and dressed as it’s 60F right now, getting to 74F later in the day. Looks like the rain has departed, at least until Wednesday, but we’re expected to have a few nights in the 30’sF this week so November is starting off like November usually is. Not much on the agenda, have my last soccer practice Tuesday and last games of the season Saturday, but besides a little shopping and gym time, not much on the agenda for the week.

As for puzzles, I do the NY Times crosswords and Ken-Ken (a math puzzle in solving multiple equations in a marked-off square using just the number of spaces for the numbers to fill it in (for example, if the square has two spaces and the entire puzzle is divided 5 x 5 and the equation is ‘4-’ then 5-1= 4 so those two numbers go there. Some are pretty easy, the Sunday 7 x 7 can be diabolical at times. Also will play Sudoku when available and while not a puzzle per se, waste way to much time playing Spider Solitare.

FCM, my Dad never cared much for dogs when I was young, we had a couple but he pretty much ignored them, then we got a dachshund named Tina and well, she was his dog (at least in her mind) and it softened him considerably.

Sticky Buns, may the schedules be always in your favor… Hope the Doc agrees on the knee. As for odd names, I can’t think of any at the moment, but we’ll see if one pops into my head.

And that’s the start of the day. We’ll see where the rest of it takes me. Have a good week all.

Huh? What? Oh, hello! It’s a new Monday, and I’m bumbling around. I went to turn on the coffee maker, but it had no water in the tank, and yesterday’s grounds were still in the basket. I started from scratch.

Okay, puzzles? I do a lot of them. After I do the MMP, I go into the living room, where I laugh through Gocomics. Then I leap into the Puzzle Page site and do 3 or 4 of those, including Wordy (their version of Wordle that gives you unlimited attempts. Then I go to the NYT puzzle site. I usually start with the Mini crossword, then the Spelling Bee I do Charge Up, which I think is a once a week. There are several I don’t do because I don’t understand them. On top of all that, I usually have a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle in progress on the big table.

It is time for breakfast. I’ll get back to you later. Be kind.

Overcast, windy and 58F at 0730. We’re expecting some heavy rain later today.

Puzzling: I do the two crosswords that are in the daily paper, which includes a NYT puzzle that can be quite challenging late in the week. I also do Spelling Bee and a couple of very easy and quick crosswords on the NYT website. I used to try Connections, but it was just too frustrating for me. I end with Wordle.

Good morning.

It’s 38F, dark, and cloudy outside. We’ll have morning clouds and fog, and a mostly cloudy afternoon with a daytime high of 53F.

I used to do crosswords when I got the physical newspaper. I tend to play some kind of word game and mah-jong (not really a puzzle per se) on my tablet.

It never really dried out enough yesterday for me to mow, but I think I need to do it today, come hell or high water.

The garbage and grass bin go down tonight, so that’s the impetus to mow the lawn and remove the leaves I have piled up near the gate. I’ve been raking the grass, but not the slope in the dog area, and I’ll need to give that a bit of a raking too, although I like to leave some leaves covering that area to build up the soil, as well as provide an area that birds can grub for bugs in.

Beyond that, I’ll be an RDOS.

Please take care of yourselves.

Or a Hekyll Island.

53 ferrets at 0800, with nine more supposedly on the way. Highs in the 60s and lows in the 50s the rest of the week, until Saturday night when it drops to 48 – all subject to change without notice, of course. (37 last night, and 32 the night before.)

I like Sudoku and Wordle, but haven’t done either in a long time. “ATONE” is always my first word on Wordle. I also like logic puzzles, but again it’s been a long time.

About 15 minutes ago, I decided to take yesterday’s recycling out to the bin. I didn’t turn on the outside light, since Mrs. L.A. was opening the door for me. At the driveway, I tripped on a solar light (that wasn’t lit). Sunup isn’t for another hour.

I like crosswords, logic puzzles, some word puzzles, anagrams like Jumble. I’m rubbish with number puzzles. Wordle bores me. The New Yorker has a puzzle, Catalogs, where you have to determine the order of the clues.

It’s a grey day in no. Illinois. Going to the gym, then Ariel gets a shockwave treatment on her injured tendon. This may be the last one. Fingers crossed.

I have narrowed it down to the NYT Spelling Bee. Otherwise, games quickly begin to feel like a chore rather than fun. I stopped Wordle and Connections, both of which I enjoyed, but not enough to spend the time on them.

I was bounced around, ending up loading Top Green on the 300. Starting at 0620. That was too much like work. I did my Aldi run, and fueled up Carmen. It started raining on the way home. Now I’m having pre naptime oatmeal.

That seems counter intuitive. Hope the Doc can help.

I refer to the fridge as The Humming Food Obelisk(a term coined by Gordie)

Same for me.

Sounds like something only the Kwasitz Haderach would enjoy.

That would be something to crow about.

Good morning, all. The Covid shot on Saturday wiped me out yesterday. My Fitbit said I had slept a total of two hours Saturday night / Sunday morning. It’s no surprise that I was out like a light on the couch last night at 9:30. I woke up enough to come to bed at eleven, and slept soundly. I feel much better today.

The HVAC quote guy is here looking at the heat pump for the basement. I told him that we’re not planning on staying in this house for very long, so a builder’s grade replacement is fine. Holy Moley! The tariffs have fscked us over big time. A bottom tier heat pump system is now more expensive than the middle tier A/C and furnace system we had to get last spring.

I want to enjoy crosswords and sudokus, but I just don’t. I think my dyslexia wreaks havoc on my ability to work them. Mrs Magill and I usually have a jigsaw going.

I think it’s going around. I usually set up the coffee maker after dinner. I did not last night. But that’s why we have the Keurig.

You all are for the birds.

ETA: Ninja’d

Maintenance guy is here, fixing/replacing the screen in the bathroom shower window (hi, neighbors!) and we will all sit quietly together and pretend the ripped screen had nothing to do with A-Cat-Named-Monkey who likes to hang out on that window sill.

Yes, there’s a large-ish window in the shower. Since there’s no fan, and no way to wire one, the window is the only moisture ventilation …

But Monks is growing more suspicious of strangers as he grows up (living with a semi-hermit lady will do that) so now he’s huddled behind me, growling softly, like a dog.
