Q anout the Pit: what if a Pitee never responds

I know Handy was Pitted several times. Mostly by Dopers who knew that he would never respond. I kinda doubt he never read the threads, just chose not to respond.

I wouldn’t hold anything against anyone who didn’t respond, though.

I don’t recall seeing that many threads in which a Pitted Doper was able to sway the Pitters back his/her way.

I just think it would be a good idea to lock such a thread once it’s apparent the Pittee is never going to respond and/or the thread has degraded into a slap fight amongst other Dopers.

Just my opinion, of course.

Strangely, pittings also tend to go on longer if the Pittee doesn’t enter the fray.

Mine went on for two pages, while I entered the fray.

I think this may have something to do with the contrary aspect of human nature. If people think you’re enjoying the attention, you won’t get any more.

Only a fool would enjoy being pitted, while it is happening.

[sup]An exception would be the time I pitted Polycarp. It was probably the lamest pit ever and everyone said so. I’m sure Polycarp enjoyed it, but again he never entered in the fray. I guess he was being kind to me.[/sup]
