A non-admirer mentioned in an email that he thought I was likely to be ‘pitted’ someday.
Just wondering: if someone starts a thread in the BBQ Pit which complains about another Doper, is the subject of the pitting typically notified of the existence of the thread? I don’t routinely go to the Pit.
Usually, if they want you to know, they will link to it in the thread that started the whole thing. If they don’t and you don’t notice it, no big deal.
I was Pitted once. Didn’t find out for like a year and a half.
I rarely read the BBQ Pit, I stumbled onto it when someone asked in some thread if anyone had ever been Pitted or something. Didn’t think I was but searched to make sure and turns out I had unwittingly offended someone a couple of times.
Usually, it’s good manners for the pitter to leave a note to the pitee in the thread that sparked the pit thread. Otherwise, you can occasionally run vanity searches by putting your name in the keyword section and finding any threads you don’t remember posting in.
Being pitted doesn’t really matter: Nobody ever got banned for being pitted. A lot of people got pitted for behavior that later got them banned, but the pitting itself was irrelevant to the later banning.
If you put in an appearance at your own pitting, it is at your option and probably won’t make much of a difference unless you undergo a complete meltdown.
I was pitted once. The person who did it had searched the internet, found my real name and phone number, then called me to complain about a comment I’d made.
He pitted me for hanging up on him…
He’s gone now.
Add me to the list of people who are thinking this. You have to be one of the most charming, least irritating members of this board, pinkfreud. Pitting you would be like pitting Aung San Suu Kyi.
Whoever your maggoty little ‘unadmirer’ is, he’s probably jealous of the fact that, even after having to deal with several of the major shocks that flesh is heir to, you still seem to be a non-bitter, intelligent, thoughtful and sweet person.
