Q for Avid Readers

My Fellow Bookworms: Is there any place one can find a list of out-of-print or rare books? I am looking for a comprehensive listing where I can glance over a list of titles, unlike Amazon, for one. Thanks, Jinx

Try the Library of Congress, although you’ll have to search for specific titles. Sorry that I don’t know a website, but a quick Googling should help.

They’ll also tell you where in the Library the book is located.

I’m just curious, you want a list of every book ever printed?? If you don’t, be a little more specific, what you want should be easy to find. Or, don’t give out more info & look in the reference area of the local library. There are a lot of good books about books near the beginning of the Dewey.

I’m hoping to find a list of modern fiction, say from 1950 onwards, both children’s and adult’s fiction (including sci-fi)… I don’t have specific titles, so I was hoping there may be a listing somewhere of titles, author, and years of circulation (i.e: being in print).

Sounds like what you’re looking for would be the National Union Catalog. The Library of Congress printed this annually for every book that received LofC classification in a given year. It’s not going to be everything–because not everything is covered by the Library of Congress, but it should be the most comprehensive listing. If their website doesn’t help, try a local university library–they may just have copies of the old beast on the shelves.
