If you spell his name right, you can find alot of info on the Web about Kareem Abdul-Jabar PKA Lew Alcindor.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was a star for the Lakers in the 70s-80s. He started his career as Lew Alcindor before changing his name.

Kareem is considered one of the greatest players of all time.

Teacher: “Look it up in the dictionary”
Student: “If I could knew how to spell it, I wouldn’t need the dictionary, would I?”
And, if a frog had wings, he wouldn’t bump his ass a’hopping!

My premise in the OP was that I couldn’t spell his name write, right?

I tried using your spelling in google, and it took less then a minutes to come up with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. :frowning:

I wasn’t trying to be smug. I was trying to say “here’s the correct spelling so you can find out more info on your own, which will get you to where you want to be quite quickly.”

Sorry. Had I known your real question was “How do you spell that Abdul-Jabar guy’s name correctly” I would have given you a less offensive answer.

Uh, don’t forget he played for the Milwaukee Bucks before joining the dark side.

He hit some shots for UCLA, too.

There was a running back from UCLA and in the NFL who started out as Sharmon Shah.
Then he changed his name to Karim Abdul Jabbar and then changed it again to Abdul-Karim al-Jabbar

His main weapon was the infamous ‘sky hook’.

He’d throw his arm around and hook it. Being 7"3 or so, no one in the NBA could really stop the shot. He was just to tall, the shot to hard to get to anyway. And he had a good percentage (its a very difficult shot for most people).

In Jabbar’s college career, his team (UCLA) only lost 2 games.

Let’s not overlook John Wooden, Jabbar’s coach at UCLA:

The John Wooden-coached UCLA teams scaled unprecedented heights that no future organization in any sport is likely to approach. Under the masterful guidance of Wooden, the Bruins set all-time records with four perfect 30-0 seasons, 88 consecutive victories, 38 straight NCAA tournament victories, 20 PAC 10 championships, and 10 national championships, including seven in a row.

Wooden may be the only man on earth who calls Jabbar by the name “Lewis”.

Actually, Karim Abdul-Jabbar played football for the Miami Dolphins.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played basketball.

Surely you’ve all seen Airplane!

Joey: Wait a minute. I know you. You’re Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. You play basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roger Murdock: I’m sorry son, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I am the co-pilot.
Joey: You are Kareem! I’ve seen you play. My dad’s got season tickets.
Roger Murdock: I think you should go back to your seat now Joey. Right Clarence?
Captain Oveur: Nahhhhhh, he’s not bothering anyone, let him stay here.
Roger Murdock: But just remember, my name is ROGER MURDOCK. I’m an airline pilot.
Joey: I think you’re the greatest, but my dad says you don’t work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don’t even run down court. And that you don’t really try… except during the playoffs.
Roger Murdock: The hell I don’t! <whispers> Listen, kid! I’ve been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I’m out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!
