In another thread about Milwaukee County Stadium, someone brought up the name Sixto Lescano, a Brewer from the 80’s. It is a great name, and it got me to thinking of others. Some current players whose names roll off the tongue: Rolando Arrojo, F.P. Santangelo, Hideo Nomo, Angel Echevarria.
Some great ones from the past:
**Bombo Rivera - Twins, 1980’s
Van Lingle Mungo - Dodgers, Giants 30’s - 40’s
Boog Powell - Orioles, 70’s
Satchel Paige - Negro Leagues, Indians, Browns, 20’s - 50’s
**What are yours? And why is it that baseball has all the great names?

I’ve always been partial to Catfish Hunter .
My favorite name in active professional sports has to be Pittsburgh Steeler Chris Fuamatu-Maafala . It’s just fun to say.
Old Milwaukee Brewers player–Rollie Fingers
Current Cub–Glenallen Hill (doesn’t it sound like a place where you’d just love to live?)
Baseball :
Carlton Fisk
Casey Stengel
College Football :
Drew Brees - Doesn’t this name just SCREAM quarterback?
Omar Easy - That would make a good name for a rapper.

Al Kaline. It’s such a basic name.
For football, I’ve always been partial to Manu Tuiasosopo.

I can’t believe everyone has forgotten:
Urban Shocker
Cornelius Alexander McGillicuddy (Connie Mack)
Zoilo Versalles
Kiki Cuyler
Topsy Hartsel
Gavvy Cravath
Granny Hamner
In hockey, I think “Zarley Zapasky” rolls off the tongue quite nicely.
Sounds like a cheap wine.
A kid that’s in the Cards organizaiton right now. Played AAA this past year (I think), but played for their AA affiliate here in Little Rock in 1999 - Stubby Clapp .
Some more from the old days:
Goose Goslin
Rabbit Maranville
Dizzy Dean
I remember a late 70’s Milwaukee Brewer named Sixto Lescano
Another one I like is Kirby Puckett
Former Kansas City Chief Thane Gash
Viking Duante Culpepper, U of Texas QB Major Applewhite
more later.
Sean Fitzmaurice – played about two games for the Mets in the early 60s, but it is the ultimate Irish ballplayer.
Zenon Andrusczyn (I think that’s the spelling) – placekicker for Syracuse U.
Grover Cleveland Alexander
Ross Moschito
Bronko Nagurski – The ultimate football player name
Amos Otis:
People won’t know (until he’s famous)
That Amos Otis isn’t Otis Amos.
(Don’t laugh. I got paid for that poem.)
Moon men, Warren Moon, 50’s Dodger Wally Moon, 70’s Oakland A Blue Moon Odom
Vida Blue, Evander Holifield, Natrone Means, Nomar Garciaparra.
Damn. RealityChuck beat me to “Amos Otis”. My other favorite is “Rick Schue” (not sure of the spelling, but pronounced like “shoe”, former third baseman for the Orioles). Sounds like a sneeze.
