This may be a little too specialized for the Dope, but I figured I’d take my chances, as google has failed me and I’m running out of time.
I have an interview this afternoon for a position which requires “general knowledge of expected reactions of most culture media with quality control organisms.”
Basically, it’s been a long time since I took my public health bacteriology class, and even if I’d just taken the final I wouldn’t remember all those reactions, so I’m trying to review. Problem is, I don’t know which organisms or which media I should be looking at.
What organisms are commonly used as quality control organisms in labs? Staph aureus and E. coli I know, and I assume Salmonella and Shigella as well, but beyond that I’m clueless.
Also, what culture media should I be expected to be familiar with? Blood agar, KSA, and MacConkey were the only ones I ever used with any regularity, but I’m sure that does not constitute “most culture media”.
Thanks for any help.
