Google and other search engines do a fine job of finding sites that discuss subjects. Is there an solution to the first hundred hits being dubious trash such as ehow, aboutcom, Yahoo answers, organizations you have no idea who they are and who funds them? With so much of the net being filled with agenda driven drivel and ignorance, how can I pull up substantial, fact filled ones. For nutrition, I want the FDA, not Whcom. Often if I am wanting dog info, I go to AVMA.org or akc.org Yes, they have their agendas, but at least I know who they are and how to discount their material.
Well, the obvious answer is to just start at the site you want the answer from or use google to search that site using “site:fda.gov search string” to search it, for example.
Now, I thought there was a little button next to each search result that said “Don’t show this in my results anymore” or something along those lines that I could use to block things like eHow etc, but I’m not seeing it right now. Is that part of the ffvb plugin?
This can be handy, depending what you’re looking for.
Hey, interesting. Often universities do have good stuff. A few years ago I was fighting miner bees. The info I found at the University of Iowa’s site seemed to be the straight dope. Maybe they are harmless, but inch+ long bees tend to panic people. I hate to admit I shamelessly dumped Sevin in the entrance to their dens.
