I like to think that I only post when I have something deep to say, hence the low number. But, the truth is, I only post when drunk, hence the rambling.
I always get a little thrill when I see a post by an obvious lurker, someone who registered in '99 or 2000 who’s got less than 200 posts. The fewer they have, and the earlier they’ve registered, the better it is.
This thread is a veritable orgasm of posts from posters I may never see again.
Low post count for me, but no lurking.
Just didn’t come back to the site for over two years
I hope this one helps towards the veritable orgasm…
I, er, am shy. Terribly. And I prefer to post only where I can contribute something helpful or interesting. Since I’m an awfully dull sort of person, I have a reasonably low post count. Past patterns suggest that once I thoroughly delurk you won’t be able to shut me up.
Well shoot, I guess I should take this rare oppurtunity to contribute to the boards.
Similar story to many, I read a lot here but rarely can offer something constructive to say which hasn’t been covered already.
I’m not a big fan of “me too” posts or otherwise i’d be in three figures by now.
As such, the few posts there have been have generally been in IMHO or MPSIMS and related to trivial matters…
Perhaps someday I will even start a thread or definitively answer a GQ, who knows?
The funny thing is, fellow lurkers, that you must conclude that a lot of posts are exactly of the type you’re afraid to make. “Me too,” “Here’s my little story not that anyone asked me,” “This happens to be my favourite.” People make mistakes, too, and are corrected.
That’s okay. That’s how conversations work. People chime in with their 2 cents.
Incidentally, another thing keeping me from posting is that I fear I won’t catch the replies. If anyone happens to address my post, it’ll look odd. I don’t know how the regulars keep up with all their active threads.
If you don’t catch any replies, so to speak, don’t worry about it; there are plenty of high posters on the boards whose every post isn’t guaranteed to garner a reply of some sort. With as many threads and as many posters darting in and out on a daily basis, don’t take it personally if no one says anything about a post of yours. After all, just because you don’t see your name in a quote box, doesn’t mean that hundreds of thousands of people haven’t read your contribution.
You’d be surprised, later on, by those other Dopers who have seen your stuff, never replied driectly to you, and yet come out later and say something like, “You’re one of my favorite posters!”
Of course, that usually happens in one of the periodic flirtation or popularity threads.
Besides, this time last year? Despite my 1999 registration date, I think I had 4 posts to my name; but then I got caught in a Great Debate, eventually met the poster who’s my fiancée now (in a BBQ Pit thread–hers, specifically), and ever since then I haven’t learned to shut up. Nevermind the pleas of some of the other regulars here–or the money they offer to send my way.
Ah, so THIS is what lurkers “look” like … interesting. No OBVIOUS deformities, no tendencies to gibber and drool … no zombie-like behavior … hmmm.
As for wanting to contribute something intelligent, or even intelligible to the board – ha! I’ve never let that stop me! And I think I can say the same of a LOT of posters here. I say, post and be damned!
SkipMagic, poor wording on my part. What I meant was that if someone did address me, I wouldn’t notice it.
Calladair: “I like Ike.”
SkipMagic: “When did you start liking Ike, Cal?”
Cal: … silence
Skip: thinks Cal a fair weather poster
See?
I’m sure you’d understand and figure I missed your gesture. But it’s not something I’m comfortable doing. Feels impolite. I’m going to try subscribing to threads in which I participate.
Vanity searches, Calladair, vanity searches! Learn to preen your SDMB feathers–I won’t think any less of you.
Actually, I can understand and respect that.

In the upper right hand corner of this page, you will see seven small labelled bars. The next to the last one says “search.” Click on that and then do a search for your name. I hope this helps.
To all of you who are usually behind the silent eyes that read:

And to all of the newbies that I have abused:
{{{{{Shrugs}}}}} (heh, heh)
Love this. I often get “Welcome to the Boards!” when I post from Dopers than have been registered for a month or two. Altho I appreciate the sentiment behind it, it always makes me wanna shout “HEY! I have been here for years! I am one of you!!”
It does make me want to say ‘welcome to the boards’ Kritsti
Although, with a post count that low perhaps it is ok fo us to say ‘welcome back to the boards’?
Well, just to be a bit of a bastard here… just because a registration date is early doesn’t mean the person’s been visiting the site regularly, right? Are the inactive ones removed? (I forget.)
For me the boards are a place to make up for all the things I don’t say in ‘real life’. I am a real life lurker.
dan has a point. heck it’s so easy to sign up for something that looks interesting and then forget about it for a year.
Well, to be fair, some message boards delete accounts if they haven’t been used in a while. I can’t recall if they do that here, but if they did, then it’s not likely people would join, forget about it, and then be able to log on a year or so down the road.
Very true **Dantheman ** and Lobsang .
I think a few people here have said they rarely visit here and thats why their posts are so low. I am here every day all day, but rarely post cause I am working ( ) at the same time.
But of course regular posters can’t tell that so I take everyone’s welcomes in the spirit in which they were intended!!
Curiosity got the better of me, I’m posting again to see what I look like at 40.
And I thought I should say hello.
