Queer Eye 02/17 - Ralph S

About bloody time! It’s been months without a fix! I don’t know how I’m going to survive the summer.

Has anyone perused the Queer Eye book? I leafed through it very briefly in Chicago the other day. It has different color covers for easy coordination with your living room decor. I didn’t do a page count but it does look like Jai’s section is the smallest. Poor Jai.

How about the soundtrack album? I downloaded the title track off the iStore but they don’t have the full album.

I have so many male co-workers stuck in the same 80s metal thing, I was telling them all day that they need to watch tonight. Fat chance.

Well, I was able to watch only half-way through, looked OK so far. Seems they took a very conservative approach to what-to-change, you basically had the same guy, only cleaned up and updated. One thing I’ve noticed is that with quite a few of their sample SG’s, it’s more a question of him knowing that a change is necessary, but requiring some external force to come in and set him in motion in that direction.

The sweat-yoga class, though, left me at first like, “huh? they’re really reaching for something for Jai to contribute” . But thinking about it, yeah, it is consistent with the whole deal to point out that recreation/fitness/health maintenance/mental hygiene activities that you can enjoy and fit into your schedule are part of a sound lifestyle(*), and to show one of the various alternatives for that. Sure you’d never find me at sweat-yoga, but that’s just me.
(*As opposed to, say, taking up dancing “to please your SO”, which came up in several of the prior eps; made it sound like some sort of required task)

I’ll wait for the re-run (or later in this thread  ) to find out how things went in the 2nd half.

BTW – Otto, you’re right at the sparcity of new material so far. I suppose they just weren’t prepared to have a hit in their hands when they greenlighted the original eps. But now we’ll have to see if the new many-shows contract doesn’t have the effect of disappointing created expectations.

Anything that gets my sweet sweet Kyan stripped down and sweaty is A-OK in my book!

Overall, though, I was pretty “eh” on the ep. Always glad to see a ponytail go. Didn’t much care for the carpet squares but that’s based on personal experience with some fairly hideous ones in my own past. I’m just not going to get excited about leather pants and watching someone de-vein shrimp. It’s disgusting.

Is this the first time the phrase “pussy hair” has been used on national television?

I thought it was a great episode mainly because of how much fun the straight guy was, and how he was in tune with the whole process. It was also nice just to have a new episode in general.

Free All-Clad pans and Wustof knives- score!

The “she wants to be part of a Sutton sandwhich” line was classic.

I liked the sign language lesson and Kyan flipping him the bird and saying, “THIS means clean your toilet!”

What exactly did Thom do with the bedroom doors? Did he bust a hole in the wall and build a new entry?

That’s what I call a mismatched set of twins, btw. And why wasn’t Jai shirtless?

Did anybody else see the anti-smoking activist on CNN the other day who complained that three of the Fab Five (Kyan, Carson & Thom) have been photographed holding lit cigarettes in recent mags? Puh-leez! I don’t deny any of the links to smoking and cancer and heart disease and global terrorism and Baby Jesus crying, etc., but if anybody is so weak willed and eager to be loved that they light up because they saw Carson do it in a magazine then they have problems that go too deep to be fixed.

PS- Loving the Kylie Minogue cameo at the end…

He was showing off his 1920s-style bathing suit.

Was Kylie there as eye candy to draw the straight viewers? Her appearance seemed kind of random, though I suppose having celebrity cameos on the Hip Tips isn’t such a bad thing.

They let Ralph get away with too much in the facial hair department.

I thought the other twin was gay until he walked in with a girlfriend. And even then…

The more important question is why in the yoga class did they keep cutting to that shot of the tattooed lesbian?

She does have a track on the soundtrack CD so I doubt it was totally random.

OK, that makes sense. Serves me right for not getting all the tie-in items!

And you call yourself a fan! Shame!
