Queer Eye 12/02 - Steven S

First, thanks to Eve for backstopping me with last week’s thread. I completely spaced that the show was even on and had to wait for the NBC Thursday “repurpose” to catch it.

And again it looks like poor little Jai has nothing to do.

But hey, return of the slovenly single guy. They’re always much more fun than the marrieds.

HOLY NO FUCKING SHIT! OMG.

This guy was one of my best friends in high school!!! He’s a total laugh riot. He sat next to me in German class and would whisper Steven Wright and Emo Philips routines and I’d bust out laughing and get in trouble.

Good ep.

Liked the decor. The apple/pear/whatever green was nice and Thom’s solutions to the storage problems were good. I didn’t see if they added any clothes storage/closet space though.

The smoothie thing was sort of lame. Any nitwit can throw fruit in a blender (except I guess Steven who fucked it up). Ted was sort of grasping at straws to come up with a food thing for the week…and so he threw them in the food processor.

We’ve seen the “vintage blended with couture” before (with the cop I think?) so nothing new from Carson. That tie as belt thing? Not so much, unless you’re a pirate of some sort.

Good job with the hair. I liked how Steven started parroting back the “it’s a process” line that my sweet sweet Kyan fed him.

And Jai looked at photos. He didn’t even get a new “hip tip,” just that sad “how to open a CD” one. Thanks, Jai, better luck next week.

I was ready to reach through the screen and smack that guy co-host from IMX. “Oh, I thought you’d look gay but you don’t look that gay.” Come, join the rest of us in the 21st century!

Reunion show in two weeks! Woohoo!

Yep, once again Jai had little to do but buy tickets and artwork. Still, that was a very cool thing he did, getting that photo at the gallery. Too bad the girlfriend didn’t share his passion for it…

I thought this guy was going to be clueless and resistant like the “cocktail party” guy last year, because of the way he was mean to Carson. However, Steven turned out a little better.

I nearly lost it during the “smoothie” scene, with Steven shaking his fists and Thom going, “damn you, fruit smoothie!” That was hilarious!

What is this show and/or network? Fuze? What kind of cable do I need to watch this channel?

I dunno, dude was a little whiny. Pretty good episode and the redo of the apartment was wonderful. Next week’s with the ex-Marine looks great! And they’re doing the reunion with the straight duys!

Anyone catch the Celebrity Poker thing? That was awesome!

I can kind of see why he was a bit whiny. The other straight guys volunteered for to be madeover. This guy’s job volunteered him for it. I get the feeling that he liked the way he dressed. Plus, his place wasn’t nearly as scuzzy as some of the other bachelor apartments. There was nothing growing in the bath tub, nor was there anything as dramatically hideous as in some of the first episodes like the cheapskate.

I think I recognized one of his co-hosts from a local music variety show here in DC. I get the feeling that this channel isn’t carried by that many cable companies.

Will someone please get rid of the completely useless Jai and Kyan? And cut that Carson’s airtime in half.

And is it my imagination or has everyone turned up the flame level for this season?

Ooooooh, them’s fightin’ words, Bill.
You’ll get no argument from me that Jai is USELESS. But slamming on Kyan? You’d best hope Otto doesn’t see this.

Why would they want to cut Carson’s airtime when he is so funny?

We get Fuse on directv, av8rmike. I will have to take a look at this show now, since bradministrator has demonstrated Steve has a great sense of humor! Emo and Wright, good stuff.

Far be it from me to challenge the queer eye, but did Carson completely miss on that first outfit he tried? White tee over black button down, then orangy shorts. That looked bad, same with the tie-belt.

The guy was kinda cool, showed a lot more personality and established sense of what he wanted than the other guys I’ve seen (not very many, I confess).

I guess I’m outing myself as a viewer of QE.

I loved when the photographer gave the print to Steven. He reacted with such happiness and gratitude.

Also, his co-workers seemed completely crappy and bitchy…particularly after they set him up to do this?

I missed the bit where Steve was mean to Carson? What happened?

Wanted to add:

Wish I had the foresight to tape the show so I could make a sound clip from this episode. When discussing the stains on the couple’s couch, Steve’s girlfriend blames a series of spots on their cat.

Carson’s response?

“That darn cat.”

 I think it would tickle my husband, who uses that handle, to no end.

WHAT?! Kyan is certainly not useless! He provides useful advice to the guy being made over and, to me, he’s sort of the heart of the show. I like how patient he is when guys freak out about stuff like shaving off beards or the guy who didn’t want to part with his hairpiece.

And I would not watch the show without Carson. The guy is hilarious and every episode has at least one Carson line that’s so funny I find myself repeating it all night. Plus I love his gay-on-straight humor, like when he made a guy give him a piggyback ride and said “straight guys are fun!” or when he was lying on a bed with two of the other guys and said “it’s a Manwich! More than a meal!”

And let’s all get over the Jai thing. Yes, he’s useless and no, they don’t really need a “culture guy,” but Fab Five sounds a lot better than Fab Four.

Back to the OP, I didn’t care for this episode. The guy kind of annoyed me and his co-workers really annoyed me. I did love it when one of his co-hosts said “I thought you were going to look gay!” and Carson (watching on TV) shot back “It’s called cool, you jackass!” That’s my boy!

Oh no you didn’t! Oh no you did not call my sweet sweet Kyan useless! You better step off mah huuuusband!

They show repeats every once in a while…

Fuse TV

Carson is funny . . . But I’m going to take fashion advice from a guy wearing the British flag on his ass? I think not.

Poor, poor, Jai . . . Press releases for next season say that “despite rumors, of course we’re going to keep the same Fab 5!” In other words, “it’s too late to drop Jai, we can’t afford another lawsuit . . .”

I do like Carson, but I wish just every once in a while he would hush up and not talk over the other children. I’ve lost count of the number of times one of the other four has started a sentence only to have Carson talk over them. Granted it’s usually amusing, but not always, and hey maybe the others would like to tell a joke now and then too. A recent egregious example was in the bald guy ep last week. One of the others started talking about the youngest child and Carson barged in with his line about the kid being lost among furniture. Not that funny. Of course he followed that up with “I’m not crazy about the shirt on that kid, it doesn’t work with his bone structure” which was hilariously absurd…

Question: I had to work late so couldn’t watch the ep. However a friend of mine’s band have a song that was supposed to be featured at some point in the show. The song is called “Kiss or Kill” and the band is Evil Jake.

Did anyone notice a song used during the show that could’ve been this song? Did it stand out at all? Just curious…

Thanks!

Nice to see another cluttered bachelor pad turned into a glorious home. Go Thom!

The hair didn’t look too different to me, but yeah, I guess it’s ‘a process.’

Tie-belt? That’s the silliest thing I’ve ever heard. Carson is hysterically funny, but kinda hit or miss on the fashion.

The photo gallery was one of Jai’s better moments, I think. The poor guy, it’s not his fault his job description is lame.

I think Ted dropped the ball on the smoothies. Some good low-fat/calorie dishes would’ve helped the guy more if he was worried about his weight.

Overall a decent episode. I can’t wait for the reunion show.

WordMan – The only song I noticed in particular was Video Killed The Radio Star, but I am not too good at “new” music. Last week they were apparently playing something by one of the bands my daughter likes, and it didn’t even register with me, but the kid was singing along.

In general, I liked this ep. I thought the straight guy was reasonably interesting, and he was pretty open to being madeover. He reminded me of sort of a David Spade/ Michael Hutchence hybrid. HATED the bright apple green in the apartment, but that’s just me, that particular shade of green is just too “new wave 80s” for my taste.

I loved the gift of the Hendrix photo. While the girlfriend MEGO’d (“my eyes glaze over”) about it, that’s the sort of gift that would mean a lot to a guy like that. He’s way into the history that goes with the music. I also like the way the Fab Five sorta dismissed the girlfriend and her stuff - she’s a bit pushy and they very casually moved her out of the foreground and brought the guy forward some, without being overtly nasty about it.
