Queer Eye 12/16 - Homo for the Holidays

Yeah, I know, lame pun’s been used before. Shut up.

We’ve already seen from the previews that Carson takes John to task for keeping the curvy mirrors (although I thought he got dispensation from Thom to keep them along with the blue “stained glass” window things). Who else is going to get raked over the coals, and who’s kept up their transformation? My take on these four:

Adam is most likely to have kept up, just because I don’t think his wife would let him relapse. I don’t think she could quite figure out before the Fab 5 how to get her house in order, but now that it’s picked up and put away you’d have to break her arm to keep her from keeping it a showplace and keeping her husband up to match the house.

George I think is likely to have grown his hair out and still be over-tanned. Other than that I think he’s probably kept it up.

John is almost as likely as Adam to have maintained, just because his place was so spartan to begin with. The aforementioned mirrors may be an issue, and in the previews he looked to be wearing a shirt with the sleeves cut off (had I arms like his I’d wear sleeveless too…had I a body like his you’d be amazed at what I might wear).

Butch has probably let his hair grow a little too, and he’s probably back in his overalls that he wears for work just because of the convenience of it. That struck me as why he dressed that way to begin with.

Of the guys who aren’t being visited, who do you think is most/least likely to have relapsed? Who do you most want to see on the next reunion show? The answer to both questions for me is Tom K, he of the garbage under the coffee table and the girlfriend who steals boots from Trenton-area hookers.

And don’t forget to stay tuned after the show for the half-hour “making the video” special!

The guy most likely to have relapsed is the immature greedhead wouldn’t even buy his girlfriend dinner.

I wish Andrew was going to be on the reunion show, and I also believe he’s probably relapsed as well. But perhaps with the pressure of working with the show he’s kept up with the makeover. I do, however, seriously doubt he waxed his back again.

I’m going with George and John as the ones who’ve really stuck to it. John was already pretty much there, and George seemed to be so genuinely into the experience I don’t think it would have been a stretch for him to continue with what they laid out for him.

I have the feeling the video special is going to be pleasantly embarrassing.

Of the guys being shown tonight, my guess is that Adam will be the biggest relapser, for the same reason Otto thinks he won’t - his wife. It’s sexist of me, I know, to blame the wife for that disaster area, but she didn’t strike me as a particularly tidy person. Let’s face it, Adam was hardly ever IN the kitchen by his own admission, so I’m left to conclude that the bulk of that mess was hers. And they’ve got little kids they couldn’t keep up with before the make-better, and I’m betting that they let the kids play in the grown-up room “just this once” and things went downhill rapidly.

I’m also betting that John and George have kept up pretty well, and I have no feeling either way on Butch (but I’m hoping he moved to a bigger place.)

One other guess for this evening’s ep: the Fab 5 will find that NONE of the guys have kept up the skin care regimes.

Oooh, thanks for the reminder, Otto. I thought I had miss this ep, for some reason.

1.5 hours…

I won’t be seeing this episode for a while since I’m way down the other side of the planet so would y’all mind telling me what went on? I’ve seen all those eps but John and am curious.

I’m thinking Butch (“My name is Brian!”) will have probably (hopefully) kept up his look and regimen, and like LifeOnWry, I also hope he’s gotten bigger digs. That place made a prison cell look inviting.

Didn’t see the wax-back guy.

Hope Uni-Brow Boy has stayed shaped up, and somehow I think he probably just needed a shove in the right direction, and got it with the F5.

Man, I live for this show. Like Otto, who has impeccable taste in men, I am hopelessly charmed by Kyan. I’d scrub my face with a Brillo pad if he offhandedly mentioned he thought I should.

The man can do no wrong. Ever.

Episode Report, Pt I

Let’s make the Yuletide, gay, people—Carson

Holiday party reunites Fab 5 and their makeover folk (even George’s mama was there. ) Followed by a flashback / compilation of all the season’s episodes, including a montage of men shaving against the grain.

Ted’s Tip: Eggnog smelly for parties. Make mulled wine instead.

How’s that for a play-by-play, Silentgoldfish?

[sub]hoping this didn’t require spoiler boxes[/sub]

Episode Report, Pt II

Further adventures at the party…

  1. Adam has lost a lot of weight; I didn’t catch how much.
  2. George has a new girlfriend.
  3. It’s really cute how the straight guys are quibbling about their shortcomings.

Home Invasion of John B by Carson
It’s a slippery slope…Carson finds that the squiggly mirrors are back on the wall and digs up some shirts he doesn’t approve of. They all go out the window, along with a hairdryer. (Okay, they don’t actually chuck the mirrors out the window, but Carson does remove them.) John defuses the situation by inviting the Fab 5 to be best men in the couple’s wedding. awwww…

Carson’s Tip: Mix Dawnsub[/sub] dishwashing soap and hydrogen peroxide to get red wine off shirts, carpet.
Either this removes stains or makes a bomb…—Carson

Home Invasion of Butch by Kyan
The guys had already said they expected Butch to be off the wagon, but he surprises them all by maintaining a surprisingly tidy apartment and having purchased a plethora of skin care products. Kyan is is heaven.

Thom’s Tip: No gift wrap? No excuses! Use found objects (such as maps, magazines) to wrap your prezzies.

Home Invasion of George by Ted
Oh, they make some quibbles (No more wire hangers!), but I thought this was one of the most emotional episodes, and they (George and his mama) continue to be adorable and really heartfelt.

Ted’s Tip: Carry lip balm.
(Did they cut out a Ted and Jai smooch here??)

Repeat after me, I am worthy of highlights.—Carson

Home Invasion of Adam by Thom
He’s maintaining those eyebrows! Plus he’s on a really strict diet, repainted the house, plus the baby’s room.

I’ve died and gone to gay man’s heaven.—Kyan, on seeing Adam’s manicured nails

Gift giving by the Fab 5, followed by their nomination of Adam as not only the best at sticking with the program, but they called him an “overachiever.” Overall, they were impressed with how everyone not only maintained their looks and homes, but how they really felt “changed” by the experience.

Jai’s Tip: Serve coffee when you want to end the party.

Just before the credits, they had new tips from all the guys, holiday specific. Holiday specific. Ha. Just like my ridiculous colors in this post. sheepish grin

Wow! That was a great recap. Thanks a lot!

Did you catch George’s mom during the “before” video of Adam’s house? “Where do they sit?! I don’t see a couch!” Hee.

I’m here to serve.
[sub]and avoiding writing this crappy paper…still…[/sub]

Wow. I was wrong by a lot. I NEVER would have suspected that Adam would have gone so gung-ho with the program! (Jesus, now I’m talking like the boys, too.)

Now somebody, please explain that stuffed shower to me - WTF??

Ted’s comment at the very end–“give people something they might want to eat”–while looking into the eyes of that hunky Santa was one of the best lines of all season!

I want a hunky Santa!!!

I understand the bathroom thing–they obviously don’t use that bathroom (parents have one in a master bedroom, probably two other bathrooms and with the kids so young, only one is needed) so they use that room to put stuff that they intend to give away–outgrown toys and clothes, old towels and blankets and that sort of stuff. And because it’s mostly in the shower, the room is still available for a potty break. It’s out of the way, not cluttering up a closet or taking up floor space, and it’s all in one place.
Now can I have the hunky Santa?

Some day, some naughty child is going to turn on the shower in that shower-closet. . .

So I want to know…did they show the four they most WANTED to revisit, or were these the only ones who would let them in the door? I have a hunch Trenton hooker boots wouldn’t have let Carson anywhere near her domain.

And what was with Thom’s suit? For a second I thought Hildy had given up on destroying property and moved on to dinner clothes.

I think they also picked the “greatest hits” to revisit. The Straight Guys that made the most of their time on the show and were clearly “with it”. That was a good decision.

The Hip Tips were sort of stupid this time- mostly because I think the Fab 5 were forced into holiday themed tips, even if they didn’t have any good one.

I loved the holiday themed intro though.

Great episode all around!

I only caught a bit of the music video show afterwards. Had to get some sleep for work. I set the VCR though.

John invited them all to be his best men at the wedding. Any doubt that they’re going to take over the whole thing in a special episode? Carson goes tux-shopping (maybe dress-shopping too?), Ted directs the reception catering, Thom decorates the hall, Kyan gets everyone’s hair done, Jai emcees the reception, with dancing lessons for all … It had just better happen.

I could die happy if they aired this. I really and truly could. ::crosses fingers::

I wondered about this, too. I wonder how many other previous “victims” had relapsed so far, that it would have been embarassing to air their visits.
