This episode, I was forced to disagree with Kyan (Grooming Guy) on Queer Eye. This week’s straight guy, Brud, was trimmed too short. I will grant that the hairdo is neat and expertly executed, but Brud’s facial features can handle ear or shoulder length hair easily. This is Conurepete, reporting form the cheep seats.
Agreed, and their aversion to any facial hair is maddening.
They don’t have an aversion to all facial hair. They have an aversion to unkempt, unmanaged, out of control, been living in the woods for three decades without benefit of mirror and razor, facial hair. c.f. Kyan’s “hip tip” from last night (repeated from earlier episodes) regarding shaving below the jawline if you wear 5:00 shadow.
I’m glad they chopped off all that guy’s hair. Next they should do the same for the wife and especially the sons. I hate long hair on men, mostly because it seems few men with long hair keep it nicely. And this is coming from someone who used to have hair down to his waist (and who tried to keep it nicely) but got over it in his early 20s. As for the wife I think she’d look better with a little bit shorter hair but again, as long as she keeps it nicely then that’s fine.
You are right about the facial hair. I would be okay with the way-short hair if they had allowed him a groomed cowboy mustache. I just think that the shorn look will result in Brud rebelling into hairyness again. He has a real gift for growing hair and should be encouraged to use this power for good. Attempting to suppress his hair seems to be asking for trouble.
