Period. I don’t know what it is. It’s not just hair down the back either. I also hate the look that is in among men right now to have it down to their chin, and have it be tousled at the ends. Hair extending to the ears is OK, but I’d prefer my men with short hair. Like very short. Like, if you can see your hair without looking in a mirror, it’s too long kind of stuff. Preferred is if it’s short enough that it could be done with buzzers.
I’m sorry, my long-haired brothers. I don’t have anything else to add.
That’s okay–more long-haired men for the rest of us! I like men with long hair–not really long, just over the collar’s enough. Enough to run my fingers through. Mmmmm, nice. But use conditioner! Long, dry hair just looks bad.
I’ve liked the shoulder-length hair look on guys for a long time, but in the past couple years I’ve realized that I just don’t find it attractive on people I’m actually thinking of being in physical contact with. I like anything between a normal short haircut and a longish shaggy short cut (if that makes any sense outside my head).
Buzz cuts and really long hair on guys both bother me. The former doesn’t give me anything to bury my fingers in; the latter is too much, and too prone to looking icky even if it’s well taken care of…
Yes, facial hair too. I feel the same way about it. I LOVE facial hair if it’s trimmed. There’s nothing better than a man with a buzz cut and a trimmed beard.
Just… don’t let it grow out too far. It looks icky then.
I’m with you, chaoticdonkey. To me, long hair = feminine. Nothing is a bigger turn-off. I like my men with short, masculine haircuts. If I wanted someone with long hair, I’d be straight and date a woman. Even touching the ears or collar is pushing it.
People who lust after Sawyer on Lost are welcome to him; I find him repellant. Even the doc, who has little more than stubble on his head, doesn’t work for be because I’ve seen him with long hair. To me he’s still that grungy guy on Party of Five, and I can’t get past that. (Now Charlie is a different story altogether. :D)
Fortunately most of the gay community seems to be on the same page with regard to long hair. It is exceedingly rare to see a gay man with hair even approaching “long” – at least in this area, where there’s a high incidence of professional/government types. Not sure about the rest of the country but I imagine the standard is pretty universal.
I think long hair is pretty no matter whose head it’s on. However, many long haired men fall into one of two camps: they neglect it and let it get scraggly, or they’re constantly preening themselves before the mirror. Please, find middle ground.
My observation is the vast majority of men with long hair don’t take nearly the care of it they should… it’s split endy and gross looking. I know a few men who keep good care of their long hair and it’s not repulsive, although not really my thing.
Some guys can do long hair well. Some have it really greasy, though. Don’t know why, but it seems that long hair for guys is more likely than long hair on girls to be greasy.
I’ve only preferred two guys with long hair: Ian Astbury of The Cult, and Anthony Kiedis of The Red Hot Chili Peppers (it really doesn’t help that when he got his hair cut shorter, he chose a really awful cut. Bleah.). Every other man, especially if it’s about shoulder length, I just…no. Every time I see Johnny Damon on TV, I yell, “Get a haircut!”
UncleBill keeps his hair in an almost military cut, which I love. I really enjoy running my hand over that short fuzz at the back, and of course there’s all that wonderful neck to kiss. happy sigh
He can’t get a haircut! Sure, his hair looks better short, but scruffy hair mojo is what allowed the Sox to win the World Series last season.
(I feel compelled to mention that the Sox were made over for the first episode of the new season of Queer Eye. Apparently they let him keep the hair, since he’s still got it.)
I"ve never had mine much beyond the shoulders. I’ve been thinking I should see if I like it down to mid-back, just to try it once. I bet it would look really cool if I grew it out that long once it turns grey-white
At one time I had hair half-way to my ass. I was all heavy metal. But one day I decided that it was too hot, too much like work to keep it looking nice. So on my lunch break I just cut it off. All of it. Which lead to my boss walking up to my desk and asking if he could help me. Very funny when he realized it was me he was talking to.
So now its short and spiky, not to short, but short enough. Sometimes I tip it in blonde, sometimes not. It all depends. And I keep my goatee short enough to match. Its so much easier that it was when I was long and scraggly. And I was long and scraggly. Think Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall. Now it’s like Brad Pitt in Oceans Eleven, just made spiky.
