I sort of expected a backlash, but more importantly from people who thought the show plays overmuch to stereotypes. But these people take the cake.

I have no fear of these intolerant bigots anymore. I tend to see them as freaks now, to be laughed and mocked at. They’ll be dead in a few decades anyways. All that will be left is the culture of tolerence that is currently being nurtured all around us.

We don’t have the show here in Oz, but I’ve seen it advertised. How can Gay people not be reality? I won’t be so bold as to estimate the number of Gay men in the world, but I’m going to assume it’s alot. What corner of the world are these people living in if they think 5 gay men do not constitute reality?

Queer Eye is just like all the other reality/makeover/remodeling shows all over TV…it’s just more entertaining because they have a lot more taste, money, and humor than Trading Spaces and that lot.
I don’t have cable at home, but we have it at work, and my boss knows that when Queer Eye is on, the channel will NOT be changed.
And these freaks protesting the show are just going to give it even higher ratings. Isn’t that always how it works?
Oh, and as far as Ms. Millam’s idea of a “really good show for gay people,” how the fuck would she know? 
And since when are the citizens of Montana being forced to watch TV?

For those not here The Block was a reality show in which four couples were each assigned one flat from a block of four to renovate, furnish and sell in 12 weeks within a budget. One couple were gay and they became known for painting in their underwear and racing off to meet their stress therapist or heading to an oxygen bar. They called themselves The Boys and have started a design business under that name.
The network involved tried to beat up a controversy (and ratings) around them but only 2 conservative radio guys took the bait, the rest of us yawned over the non issue as we have over queers on telly for eons, my guess is we will be no different over Queer Eye.

When will this reality TV fad go away? I want good scripts, great actors, fantastic camerawork and sensitive direction if I am going to sit through all those damned ads, not somebody sanding their floorboards or snogging in a hot tub.
What pisses me off about this bitch is that apperently she thinks that AIDS is a “gay thing” when it’s NOT. I know three straight women that have it. As far as everything on TV being gay. Well… I say better gay than stupid and I can think of a LOT of really stupid shows that have nothing to do with being gay!!
There was already a thread about these losers, but my reply is basically that they are a splinter group of Bible-waving morons using the fame of the show to get attention for themselves they they would never be able to achieve on their own.
What saddens me is that any responsible media would give these troglodytes any publicity at all. Like the giant ads in a Treehouse of Horror episode, these bigoted fools will disappear if we don’t pay any attention to them.

In this show, 5 gay sweep into some poor man’s life to set him up for some kind of special occassion. They take him shopping, give him a make-over and tips on ‘things to do’, tell him how to cook one really nice dish, and (here’s the kicker) redecorate his house.
Occasionally, they flame.
We love the show. But, if this is reality, it’s only in New York.
The people quoted in the OP are obviously bigoted morons, and it’s good to see that they’re losing the culture war.
I should add, however, that one does not have to be a fundamentalist homophobe to see the “Queer Eye” TV show as a steaming pile of dog crap. It is no better and no worse, in my opinion, than all the other steaming pile of dog crap “reality” shows currently taking up space on our airwaves.
It is also beginning to follow the annoying habit of other reality shows, whereby the “stars” actually branch out beyond their own show and take to annoying us on other shows and in other locations as well.
I don’t believe in segregation by race, ethnic group, sex, or sexual orientation. But i do firmly believe that we should construct a ghetto–on the “Escape from New York” model–for anyone who’s ever been on a reality TV show.

Well…let’s spend MORE money pretending that AIDS just happened with the sexual proclivites of heterosexuals.
