Question about CBS colonoscopy PSA

There’s a CBS Cares PSA about colonoscopies that’s running right now, where the guy says “Colonoscopies are no big deal…I’m having one right now!”

Who IS he? Is he a comedian? A newscaster? If he’s not a comedian, it just seems really weird for him to have that line…it invokes movies like Airplane in the deadpan but enthusiastic way he says it. I don’t recognize him at all.

That’s Alan Kalter, the announcer for David Letterman’s show. His persona on Letterman is that of someone who’s. . . a little strange.
