I’ve been entertaining the idea of planning an Alaskan cruise for a vacation next year and I decided to go browse Travelocity to see what the prices were like. Every cruise offer I see is priced based on double occupancy. For a variety of reasons, I’d probably be doing this vacation alone.
If I truly want to do this alone, am I essentially going to be stuck paying for two fares, or is there someplace I can go to get a rate for a single person? I don’t want to go on a “Singles” cruise (i.e. one specifically targeted at single people with the intent of hooking people up), I just want to go alone without paying a fortune.
Any travel agents or experienced cruise people out there?
I don’t have info re: travelling single, but I did take a cruise last year and got a good deal via www.valuevoyager.com. So you might want to check out that site. It seems that the closer to cruise date, the prices become very deeply discounted. In my case, I already had RT airfare to Florida, and then I found a discounted cruise that fit into my schedule (so I didn’t have to pay a high airfare by buying plane tickets at the last minute).
Travelling alone sucks. Well, paying for it does. The actual experience is heavenly. I had to pay an extra 50% for a week by the Mediterranean because I was by myself, but it was worth it just to be able to do anything I wanted every day (also, the trip was quite cheap in the first place, as are most from the UK, even with the exchange rate).
