Question about dog poop bags

We use the plastic bags that they load food into at Kroger. They’re plenty sturdy enough for picking up dog crap. You just need to check them first to make sure they don’t have any holes.

In places that have banned plastic bags at supermarkets you’d be dependent on buying a supply of poop bags. Not all that expensive*, but I’d wonder about durability during extended walks. :poop: :scream:

*Lavender-scented? Blurgh.

One thing a Minnesota winter is good for - easy dog poop cleanup in your yard! By the time you get out there to pick up the poop it’s frozen. No mess!

On the other hand, yard cleanup of missed poop after the spring thaw can be…unpleasant.

The compostable ones are very thin. What I do is bag it, and then put the bag inside another bread bag (double bag). When at a garbage can, the poop bag can be dumped and the outer bread bag can be saved for another day. Just feels cleaner this way, and saves the pack in case of breakage/leakage

Yeah I left out the part where they live across the street and I would watch their off-leash, unsupervised dog use our front yard as a bathroom. I would not have made a stink (heh-heh) if it were as you describe.

Once you ID the perp, wait and the next time you see them, follow them home. Its obviously walking distance and a little surveillance, like driving by twice a day while going to and from work will do the trick. Where I live, this would be easy to determine.

Stalking the poop perp.

Yeah, I’m into that. Big time😊

Plus buying cameras.

And placing poop onto people’s cars after stalking them to their homes.

I’ve never left behind a bag of poo when walking a dog. I will attest to the fact that carrying a smelly bag is not fun… especially when your nose itches and you accidentally use THAT hand to deal with it. I believe on that occasion, I just made a point of using the other hand to deal with any itchiness, until I passed by an actual trash can.

I’m with the “mostly complete assholes” crowd, as from the description, these are not the “gonna fetch it on the way back” sort.

Even if you plan to fetch it on the way back, you are still leaving a bag of poop sitting there for everyone else to enjoy. Maybe only for an hour, not until the unbanned pop would have melted into the dirt. But I’ve seen an awful lot of bags of poop on the ground.

When I am in possession of a poop bag, I often stop at a gas station for gas/a bottle of water/etc. I’ll toss the bag into the garbage bin by the gas pumps.

My gf says this is a terrible thing to do, but isn’t that why garbage cans are there?

I jog with my two dogs fairly regularly. Both poop. One often a couple of times during a run (exercise seems to stimulate his bowels!)

Honestly I’ve never perceived holding the poop bag in the not leash hand for half an hour or so (and adding more poop to it as needed) to be a huge problem. I’ll skip over garbage cans until near home so I don’t possibly have to use an extra.

The bag isn’t going to contaminate my face if I scratch an itch. Poop is on the inside, not the outside.

Yeah leaving the bags is strange behavior.

For easier carrying, get bags that have handles. They look like mini grocery bags. You can loop the handle over your finger when you carry them. They’re easier to carry than the rectangular bags since those need to be grasped. The grasping is more awkward when you’re dealing with leashes and dogs moving all different ways. The handle bags are easier to tie up as well since the handles can be tied around each other. And the handle bags typically have a larger diameter, which makes them easier to turn back right side out after you’ve picked up the poop.

The dogs and I walk by a bowling alley/pizza parlor every morning. If I have a bag of poop, I always toss it in their dumpster. I don’t see anything wrong with that at all. Fun fact - the lawn bordering the parking lot of this establishment is where two of my dogs seem to think is the most magnificent place in all the world to poop. So the dumpster is quite handy!

Yeah, I just don’t get the references to “stinky/smelly” poop bags.

The ones you see lying around can be grosser IMO, as they might have some condensation, or the outside is dirty from the time spent on the ground. But once you turn the bag inside out, it is odor free. Just a plastic bag. Are people perceiving some “psychic stink”?

Such talk - and people not carrying their poop bags - is just yet another instance of people mang a big deal out of something that most definitely isn’t.

I long ago stopped using newspaper or grocery bags, as a non-zero percentage of them had holes in them from usage.

If I were taking long hikes in the wilderness, I’d outfit my dog with some sort of harness such that he/she could carry their own water, bowl, and yes - waste.

My Amazon bags are baby powder scented.

Yeah, mine are lavender.

My dog likes to wipe her feet after the deed, most of the time it’s on dirt or gravel and unless I intervene, she’ll scratch a bunch of dirt right on top of her pile, as nature evidently intended. I try to pull her a little to the side to make the pick-up easier.

Here’s a question for the group: If your dog poops on someone’s lawn, of course you pick it up, but - if their trash can is at the curb, do you deposit there? Or, do you bring it home and put it in your trash can? Does it depend on if it’s trash day and has not been picked-up yet, versus an empty trash can? Opinions? (Me - I never put it in someone else’s can, but a public trash bin at the park or gas station (per above) is OK).

Never in someone elses trash can, even if the truck is down the block heading this way. I just think it’s disrespectful.

Public/park trash cans are another story though.

My wife RARELY errs and buys scented poop bags. Yes - THOSE I would call stinky.

We’ve discussed the trash can issue before (and Larry David did it humorously on CYE.) I don’t understand why it should be an issue for anyone, but I realize that enough people get pissed about it that I do not do it.

Plenty of people use our garbage can for bagged dog poop disposal and I have no issues with it. Much better than them leaving the shit in my lawn, which also happens.

Hell, if someone picks up trash on the road or sidewalks around my house and wants to deposit in my can, more power to them.
