I don’t think people should put trash in other people’s trash cans regardless of the type of trash because you never know how the homeowner feels about it. And I really don’t think that people should put smelly or disgusting trash into other people’s trash cans. Even if the homeowner is okay with something like a soda cup being put into their can, they may not want random yucky stuff being put into their can. In addition, smelly stuff can stink up the can and the area around it. If the truck doesn’t happen to pick up the trash that week, the can owner will have to end up storing it for an extra week. Most poop bags do not completely block the poop smell. They aren’t impervious enough. The can’s owner will have to deal with the smell of the poop bag left in their can. I think dog owners should just act as if personal trash can’s don’t exist. If there’s a can in a public area, that’s okay. But treat someone’s trash can as their own person property and don’t use it yourself.
All of our garbage goes to work with me and into my dumpster there. No stinky garbage at home.
However, my neighbor (at work) is nosy and has twice gotten license plates from people using my dumpster for their spring cleaning crap. I don’t hesitate to call the cops and file theft of services report. Both people were caught.
Aren’t garbage cans stinky anyway?
I can see being concerned for inside cans. But an outdoor bin being dirty is not something I lose sleep over.
