what’s happening here? to my civilian’s eyes, all i see is an inept soldier running around getting shot. is it wise or effective to run out into the open like that to draw fire? i don’t see how that could have help the rest of the squad who would have to head out into the open to fetch him.
As the caption read he exposed himself to draw fire. His squad was pinned down and in a bad spot. When the enemy starts shooting at him it gives the rest a chance to manuver into a better position. Which would allow for suppresive fire and fire and manuver. The Taliban is not known for its fire discipline so I have no doubt all the weapons turned on him and allowed his squad to move.
