In the F.A. Cup game last night Southampton were forced to play with an outfield player in net because their keeper got injured and they had used all of their substitutions already. It was quite an odd decision in my eyes to put one of their strikers in net as they were losing and badly needed a goal. My question is, could George Burley have decided to put a defender in as the keeper 5 minutes later upon realising his mistake or is it specifically against the rules to change keeper during the game (excepting substitutions and the example described above)?

So it looks like the answer is yes.
The other limitation of course is finding a shirt to fit the player who is moving to keeper.
Shouldn’t be a problem - provided it’s of a distinctive colour, any shirt would do.
