Question about Howard Hughes and The Aviator.

When Howard Hughes gets in his second plane crash from the XF-11 and is pulled to safety by the military gentleman, a camera goes off in Howard’s face. Is there a real picture of him taken seconds after being pulled to safety?

Here’s an XF11 crash site. I don’t see any close-ups of Hughes in the pictures. Doesn’t mean there isn’t one somewhere though.

Not a reply, so much as another question about that crash.

I can understand Hughes’ ego causing him to forgo wearing a parachute, even though it was a maiden flight of a highly experimental aircraft. But why on earth would he not have had the sense to strap himself in? It seems that the majority of his injuries (minus the burns) were caused by this.

Just doesn’t seem like something such an experienced pilot would do.

From what I’ve read, Hughes did a lot of things that a pilot with his level of experience should have known not to do.

Howard was a weird, weird man. Maybe that’s why he didn’t strap himself in.
