Question About Internet Chatrooms

I remember a time a few years ago when I could go into the AIM chatrooms and meet interesting people.

Now the chatrooms are so full of pornobots, it’s just not worth the trouble. The same is true of MSN chat.

IRC doesn’t have this problem, but too frequently I have an interesting chat with someone then never meet them again. AIM and MSN have a certain stability of identity that IRC lacks.

So my question is, is there any chatroom out there where one can meet interesting people, not be bombarded with porn messages, and have a decent chance of chatting meeting a chat friend again?

On the Undernet IRC network, you can find #straightdope. Most of us are regulars, and you can get involved with interesting discussions.

What is a pornobot?

No, really, I’ve never heard of that.

Well, I’m not sure it’s an official term. What I mean is this:

A lot of the users in chatrooms aren’t real people, but are just computer programs designed to spam people or otherwise advertise for pornographic web sites. They often have names like “SexyLatina22f” or “Michelle19f.”

The thing is, they’ve gotten totally out of hand. It’s not uncommon in some chatrooms for 80% of the people in the chatrooms to be pornobots.

It’s very annoying.

Yahoo Chat is a pretty decent place to meet new interesting people online.

Agreed its got its share of pornobots lurking around,but there are lots of genuine interesting people you can chat with.And yes you can meet friends again because of the messenger service.

It has a wide variety of interest specific chat rooms as well.

My oldest ever net friend is from Yahoo chat.Met her 4 and a half years ago.Still in touch with her on a daily basis because I have added her to my messenger buddy list.
