Question about Kyomara and his/her banning

First of all this to clarify things not to call y’all Nazi bastards

Was Kyomara banned because of this thread?

If not and he was banned for something else (sock, trolling that I haven’t seen etc.) then fuck him but if he was banned for what happened in that thread I have a question.

Is this the way things are going here? A hijack starts, A moderator comes in and lays down a serious warning. 7 mins later a post from Kyomara appears. This is well within the time period where the poster may not have seen manhattans warning. TubaDiva then comes in and says

and the poster is banned. WTF

What if the guy just posted and went off line? This banning seems very very harsh to me and if this way of going about things becomes consistent over the whole board then a lot of people are going to be banned and a lot of people are going to get angry.

What happened to warnings that didn’t threaten banning immediately and just moving the thread to GD etc.

Anyway as I said if the poster (who I don’t know at all BTW) was banned for something else then grand but if this is the reason then colour me confused?

If he was banned for that, it was way too fast. He posted 7 minutes after the warning, was banned, and then Tuba Diva said it was allright because she hadn’t received an e-mail or apology twenty minutes later. Twenty fucking minutes.

I doubt Kyomara was a sock (338 posts is a lot for a sock) and I haven’t seen any evidence of him trolling, so what the fuck is up with this, mods? This is far more asshole-ish than you guys have ever been. Unless there is some other reason for his banning, I feel that it is you who owe Kyomara an apology.

Agreed. This board has always been a bit overmoderated IMHO, but if that one post is the only reason Kyomara got banned, the problem is far worse than I thought.

It is my understanding that banning isn’t necessarily permanent. But there was a blatent violation of the warning Manny gave directly after he gave the warning.

From Tuba’s message, I get the feeling that Kyomara has some explainin’ to do, and will not be able to post 'til he does.

Maybe there needs to be a separate “suspended” category, since “BANNED” does have a permanent ring to it.

I don’t understand why hijacking has lately become a mortal sin.

I can’t tell you how many times a banal OP has turned into an interesting one because of a hijack.

It happens in real life conversations, too. The guys will be sitting around talking about transmissions, and next thing you know, they’re discussing Cuba.

I’ve always defended the mods. I wouldn’t do their job for love or money. I suspect there was some “background” that led to Kyomara’s banning, but if it was based soley on that post, then I’m speechless.

I agree - it looks unnecessarily harsh, if that’s the entire story.

I presume this is the offending statement:

Doesn’t even sound exclusively political… it sounds personal.

He could have gone on to say “I think he’s a bumbling, boring, inarticulate buffoon, but despite this, he’s doing a great job.”

OK that’s stretching it a bit, and it’s still in contravention of the rules, but all the same…

Rereading the message again - I had another thought. It doesn’t really look like that much of a political statement anyway. I think the guy is just tempering his statement with the fact that he isn’t one of Bush’s fans. The fact that he defended Bush in this case seems all the more salient considering his political leaning, which I assume is why he mentioned it.

What say we hold off on the flinging of shit until we get a word from a mod, hmm?

I don’t suppose anyone thought to ask Tuba directly, huh? Thought not. (Hint: tubadiva@aol.com.)

The last time I looked, the SDMB had basically 1 rule. And that is “Don’t be a jerk”. If what Kyomara did was being a jerk, then I suggest that every single solitary person that is registered on the SDMB, all 20,000 + of them should have the word BANNED under their name. No faster than this board is, it could have easily been possible that Kyomara posted at the same time that the warning was given and s/he did not even see it.

Fighting ignorance, indeed.

andros I’ve been here long enough to know her email address. I’ve even used it when I wanted to. I don’t think this is a email thing. So if it’s ok with you I’ll just continue.

[entering annoying patronizing mode] Do you know what one of the reasons for the pit is? [hint]

From the forum description

.

[leaving annoying patronizing mode]

If I wanted to take it to email I would of I didn’t and I haven’t thrown any shit I asked a question.

This looks a little over bearing to me too. He did not obey the Moderator but the time frame of the whole thing reeks.

You know, this is an equally stupid suggestion when it is inevitably made in threads such as this.

The moderators acted very publicly. If they are going to explain their actions (and I say “if,” I don’t care if they do) then there is no reason they shouldn’t do it here on the board where everybody can see the answer.
It does appear that he was banned for a very slight infraction that he had no idea he was committing; it is entirely reasonable to assume that he never saw the warning before posting. If he is going to be banned then all the previously political posters (is Manny mostly upset because most of the political comments are at odds with his politics?) should be banned.

It is certainly possible that something else happened in those 20 minutes (between Kyomara’s post and TubaDiva’s defending of his banning) but since that post was his first in almost 24 whatever it was apparently happened off the boards.

I respectfully submit that manny simply wants us to think he has a big penis buy beating people about the ears with it.

I also believe the banning was a might quick, and petty.

The timing of the warning and the offending post, are close.
And what if Kyomara never saw the warning, wrote his post, pushed submit, and left? What then?

The statement didin’t really even sound political.

WTF?

Are members going to have to start walking around on egg shells now?

It just doesn’t make much sense.

I happened to be watching the thread at the time, and TubaDiva posted well before Kyomara was banned. Tuba’s post looked nothing like a “defense” of a banning at the time it first appeared.

Goddammit, I lost my first post to the dead database gods…

Firstly, my apologies, Yojimbo. I didn’t mean to splash paint on you. I think your OP was reasonable and polite.
But for fuck’s sake, obfus, I meant someone might want to email Tuba to let her know this thread is even here. It’s not like she’s busy or anything these days. So seeing as how it’s going to be a while before we get her response, there’s not a whole lot of point in bullshit speculation without the facts, now is there?

Jesus, how tough is this? Get the facts, then get pissed off.

Unless it’s just an excuse to whip out the ol’ “the mods suck” hardon. It certainly seems you have on for manny.

As I’ve said if there is something other that whats on the board the grand ban him. Actually they can ban anyone. It’s their playground etc but I’m just looking for clarifation.

Do we really start to minding our P&Q’s a bit more?

No probs andros

Maybe I was a bit too quick. Mailing Tuba to let her know about the thread is actually a good idea. I’ll do that right now.

I’ll wait to hear from Tuba before I form an opinion about what she did. In general, I trust her, even though she’s been a bit edgy lately, which is understandable given the circumstances. I’ve never known her to be anything other than generous and fair.

But overall, this whole thing is why I don’t post in Great Debates anymore. I used to consider it my home away from home, and any of you who know me know that it was by far my favorite forum. I haven’t posted there since the new board came up, and I have no intention of posting there. I was accused — falsely — of hijacking, not just once but twice, a thread over at BBboy that had been moved from General Questions to Great Debates. I made an appeal. It fell on deaf ears. Rumors flew that I would be banned. It was a bizarre episode, really.

Oh, don’t get a twit. That isn’t what you meant and isn’t even close to what you said.

Jesus, how tough is this? Get the facts, then get pissed off.

I’m not pissed off. I’m not even upset.

Now that hurts. I don’t think the mods suck, and I have nothing against manny; but he certainly went off for little reason. Ignoring the ban, the warning was bullshit in the first place.

I think I’ll go post something political in that thread. That way I can get get banned for doing something that happens dozens of times a week (that is, hijacking GQ questions with personal opinion).

it is most certainly what I meant. But you’re quite right, it wasn’t what I said, and I apologize for saying something that you found “stupid.”

Then please forgive me for assuming you do. It certainly seemed that way when you said:
