jayjay: People keep mentioning all these stories about me in my wife’s LiveJournal. I’m beginning to be concerned. Is she snarking on me anonymously in there, or what? Ordinarily I’d blow off anonymous snark, but if it’s my wife’s anonymous snark, that carries a little more weight. Of course, if it’s anonymous, then you wouldn’t know it was my wife doing the snarking … man, that’s a conundrum. I’m gonna have to lie down while I think about that one. Like you did when you’d post links on the SDMB LJ to poke fun at people or invite others to come and look at/post to threads? You’ve already been called on it in the anon communities (you should know since you read/post to them).
Yet, you didn’t open Pit threads and went to LJ. Why? And, don’t even bother countering with the “anonymous” thing, since you weren’t willing to put up here–you had to do it at LJ. Using your name or not, you knew that the subjects of your threads would (more than likely) not see them. Some crusader you are.
Maybe you should start a pit thread with a link to the SDMB LJ community when you start attacking posters there. That would be something to admire.

And you could have seen a lot of that stuff happening elsewhere–on personal LJs, in chat, on other spin-off boards. In fact, a number of things you posted are things that have been talked about for years. You know, before the “anon” communities.
And, they’d remember being called on it themselves (in those very same anon communities) and would not be so self-righteous now. How’s that working out, anyway? Haven’t been to SDMB LJ in a while so I haven’t seen your new links.
Unless you’re willing to open a Pit thread where the target of your derision can respond, then it’s no different. Don’t say that you’ve changed–it’s not an excuse. You’ve done the very same things that you are attacking the anon people for. That makes your comments hypocritical. You know this already, since you can’t stay away from those anonymous sites that you are so quick to judge.
You’re joking, correct? You read and post in those communities often enough to know that it is the “cool” kids who get posted about. It’s a reaction to the perceived “clique” mentality on the boards that people who are outside the group recognize. I reckon that some just ignore it, some challenge it here, and others go to LJ. Just like you take you’re silly, petty slams to LJ.
I’m not gonna call you a loser. In a different forum, I’d call you a hypocrite, but I know you’ve been called that before and it’s made precious little difference.
I am pretty much burned out of this topic (no, really) but one thing I want ask: I don’t know anything about these accusations against Guin—don’t know if they’re true, or distorted, I’m completely out of the loop in that regard. But I will say, even if someone is a “hypocrite,” does it necessarily negate the things they say? This “I know I am but what are you” or “Hypocrite!” mantra might work for a while, but if some (or most, or all) of the charges Guin claims are true, then they’re still true.
We may be big kids, but I’ve seen these communities, and even been the subject of discussion in some of them. The people who post there sure don’t act like big kids. Kindergarteners, maybe, but not big kids.
Of course, if the worst anyone can say about me is that I’m a fat drunk, both of which are true (well, sober drunk on a diet), then I must be a hell of a person.

Luckily some of the “kindergartners” there will call bullshit and defend people who are being attacked. Not always effectively, not often enough, but they do. Pretty impressive kindergartners. I especially like the kindergartners who use humor to derail a particiulalry nasty thread.
Sometimes. Again, I’ve noticed SOME people seem to be off limits, and others are fair game and get dragged through the mud, with maybe some weak, “Well, he/she’s not THAT bad.”
Whatever. You know, whenever someone admits to posting their anonymously, it’s always, “But I don’t post the nasty stuff!” Well then, who the hell does? SOMEONE has to be posting this shit-it doesn’t get there on its own.
I’m not saying you do it, Cranky, but dammit, I’m tired of everyone defending it. If you want to post there, that’s fine, but it pisses me off that people will be nice to someone’s face, then trash them behind their back.
That, unfortunately, is life. What you don’t seem to understand is that you’re not helping one little bit by kicking up a fuss about it. Saying your piece once or twice? Sure. Saying it constantly? Um, maybe you’re ascribing a BIT too much importance to it.
I’ve been discussed in the anon communities. Most of it was nice, but a lot of it was nasty. Some of it I had invited on myself, and some of it was just really low. But that’s the way of these communities. However, I don’t bother reading things anymore that I know will offend me, and I don’t talk about them ad infinitum either. I’m not trying to tell you to shut up, but maybe you could divert your focus to something else?
