Question about Philips commercial

You know the song from the Philips commercials? The one that goes, “I got to admit it’s getting better…getting better all the time.” Is that a full-length song? If so, who was the original artist?

I swear I recognized Neil Young’s voice from one of the early spots…

While we’re at it (that is, if you don’t mind, THespos), does anyone know who does the acapella version of “Stayin’ Alive” for Mercedes?

–Tim

Umm … The first song was originally recorded by a British group called the Beatles. The title is “Getting Better”. It’s on “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”, a CD available in some record stores. Ask the clerk to check in the “oldies” section.

Ouch. Can’t believe I didn’t know that one, although I’ve never owned a copy of Sgt. Pepper’s.

Thank you for eradicating my ignorance.

Hey, it happens. That’s what we’re here for.

Sgt. Pepper’s…gee, don’t think I’ve ever quite heard of that one

But…I can’t really see someone recording just one line…who is the group doing the cover?? Doesn’t really sound that bad!

The version on the Philips add was done by a band called Gomez who are, funnily enough, from Liverpool. The album is Abandoned Trolley Hotline.

Can’t find anything about the Mercedes commercial though.

Are you sure? I thought it was on “We’re Only In It for the Money”?

1 - Theres this chevy ad about flat floors, so more legroom, which or may not be a good thing. Some girl’s kid brother tries to get smart with his sister’s friends. and then “JOEY!! CUT IT OUT!!!”

2 - This autmobile ad has some a weird dressed character in a hood in the countryside. He picks up lost sparrows and puts them back in their nest. The song is about some “daydream”.

Does anyone know the song of this ad??

I have more queries but can think of them right now. More later.

Come now, dear fellow, let us not mock the Great Leveller of All Men so lightly, lest he come and pay you a visit prematurely.

Argh. I know what song you are talking about. I know it’s an oldies song, on those oldies stations all the time. The weird dressed guy is the Grim Reaper, I believe. It looks like he’s going to hurt the sparrow but puts it back into their nest and dances away, right?

Can’t say if any of the commercials mentioned here are at this site, but it is pretty good if you are wondering about certain commercials and their songs.

Shortened the link for those with 19" monitors and smaller

I’m pretty sure it’s:
What a Day for a Daydream - The Lovin’ Spoonful.

That’s a great commercial.

<hangs head in shame>
Yes, I am ashamed myself…

AETBOND417, Thanks!! I will try and get the “What a Day for a Daydream - The Lovin’ Spoonful”.

What’s the song from that Mercedes commericial awhile back? It’s an old one and it goes “falling in love again, never wanted to, I can’t help it”.

Thanks

…and one more: The song from the Acura MDX commercial. Not a very memorable commercial (SUV drives around dirt roads), except for the song.

Thanks!

“Falling in Love Again” is done by the one, the only, the incomparable Marlene Dietrich.

ramesh says:

The version on the automobile commercial was certainly not The Lovin’ Spoonful, though they are the original artists. It sounds alot like Leon Redbone singing the commercial. “What a Day for a Daydream” does not appear in his discography, but I know he has done some TV and commercial work before (a Tide detergent ad and, IIRC, the theme song from "Mr. Belvedere), and that song is right up his alley. If it’s the lyrics you like, get Lovin’ Spoonful’s version. If it’s the distinctive voice you liked, check out some of Leon’s stuff at CDNow.

Astrid It’s getting better.
