Question about spending the school year abroad.

When my mother was in high school, she spent the last semester of her senior year in Granada. She only needed a few credits to graduate, so she just had them mail her her work. While there, she stayed with a family and just took a couple of courses at the University.

I spent a month in Salamanca, Spain this summer, and loved it. I was definately happier and less stressed there than I am here. I loved it so much that I would like to live in Spain some day. Next year I technically only need 2 credits (Government and English) to graduate, but the school requires that students take at least 6 credits. Does anyone know if it would be possible for me to spend the school year in Spain (I don’t want to do an exchange program and go to a high school there; I still want to be technically enrolled here, like in my mother’s situation) and just get my work sent over? Could I get an exemption from the other 4 meaningless credits I’d have to take if I stayed here? I’m in the Virginia Beach City Public School system, if that makes any difference.

The reason I’m not just going straight to my principal with this is that she, although she claims she’s very approachable, is in fact the exact opposite. She’s even been known to hang up on parents. If I talk to her, I need to go informed.

Any information you would have would help! Thanks!
