Hypothetically, are there ever any circumstances where a person, sentenced to prison (jail) for 16 months, would be allowed to leave for 10 days at Christmas for the Christmas break? That is, go home and spend X-mas with family and then return to prison?
FWIW it’s white collar crime and a minimum security prison.
Certainly there are many forms of short parole programs for inmates who aren’t much of a flight risk, but you seem to have someone in particular in mind; why not ask the province in question?
(I am assuming that since it is a 16 month sentence, it’s a provincial jail. If what you mean is that the person is up for parole in 16 months, but the sentence in total is more than 24, that would be a federal institution, IIRC.)
I hate to randomly throw ideas in the air, but you mentioned white collar crime. The only thing I can guess is that if that person was pretty high up on the ladder, he’ll get some special privileges. Look at Colin Thatcher, he got a golf course and they brought in his horse.
